I'm looking for an effects board with midi control to integrate in my setup and came across the G-System. I have loops to be launched from my DAW (Logic Pro X 10.5) and since the G-Sytem also has an FX processor and external loops connections built-in.

Anyone uses this pedal to control his DAW and can tell me what I want to do is possible?

Working now with the Nektar Pacer but like to switch to a more advanced pedal so I can stop tapdancing.

it is not vey suited as you can only either use Prg change messages or 4 contious Midi CC controller via the 4 encoders that can be utilized for controlling external devices. For eg clip triggering in ableton Live, you use typical Midi note events mapped to a pad controller or Midi keyboard.

Than best solution is to keep the Nektar Pacer for my DAW control because that works like a charm.

Maybe I can control the G-System from my Nektar Pacer then.

Does this happen in a board with other effects loaded, such as the harmonizer?

If you try it on an empty board, does it load?

only one slot loaded with the delay, I traied to switch off x5 and restart toneprint as well.... no octaver.

but now I tried few templates like shimmering and Blizzard record and it works... so maybe it depends on the type of Dly I'm using..but I need to say it now... it is so fu*** complicated to do something you like on TC.El.:

why i do not have a selector for dely type on toneprint and for HOF2 too ?

there is no manual with parameter explications... and it is not so cheap.. I still have 2 weeks left to try this... but I'm thinking to give my plethora back...

      bye

Sorry, I misunderstood your first question - yes, the octaver on the Flashback only works on the toneprint templates that have it activated from the factory, for the same reason it's not possible to simply have a menu to choose your delay type: there are some low level parameters that have to be set from the factory for the octaver to work, because of their complexity.

At the end of the day, it's an unbelievably powerful system with access to a lot more parameters and tweaking than most effects processors would give you, and the slight quirks are the price to pay for it. Once you get to know it and get into the groove of choosing the right starting templates for what you want to do (tip: use the favorites tab...), it becomes second nature. And it sounds glorious...

      Hi macfilipe,

maybe what you say it's right and the machine sounds good...but I do not understand why do I have to search "manually" which FB2 algorythm have octaver enabled ? there's nobody at TC.el that can make a list ? I suppose it will take 15 minutes. If someone wants to go a little deeper in programming the algorythms it becomes quite a nightmare because you do not have information on the parameters and the structure of the algorythm...

and when I have a doubt I have to write to the Tribe hoping someone had found a way to solve it... I will be ok with it if when I purchase a TC.el engine they said to me: "hi guy we are sorry but our company cannot give you much informations because... " so why TC do not give informations ?

if they will say well 98% of our customers are happy with the preset we give to them that we decided to spend money on developping presets and not to spend money on informations support... it's OK for me but I want to know it..before.

But I'm not sure on the long run they will gain that much in saving money this way...

At the end if it is true that the ears will be the last judge of a sound... if you know a little of DSP you will like to know the structure of the algorythm.. because you can save time (and frustrations).. and if I'm frustrated with something I bought, well next time I will think twice before buying something from them..

      thanks

    Hi,

I found the cabinet simulation on the Plethora x5 rather disapointing. I assume it is not based on impulse responses, am I correct? Today I tried my electric guitar -> overdrive pedal -> Plethora and then straight into my audio interface for recording. The cabinet simulation on the Plethora does sound better than the raw/direct guitar sound, but it is miles worse any cabinet simulation using impulse responses, e.g. the Two Notes Wall of Sound plug-in. At the current state, I basically found the cab sim on the Plethora unusable...

Would it possible to include an IR-loader in future firmware updates? Most players using IRs already have their preferred options from Celestion and other manufracturers, so please at least give us the hability to load them and get better direct sounds with the Plethora! I would happily use it, even if it took one of the five effect slots available. Besides that, other instruments could also benefit by using IR-based reverbs and even for adding body resonance to acoustic guitars... there are so many IR applications!

Thanks in advance for your comments and have a nice day,

    Alberto

    Hi,

After 1 month of use, with minor bugs, my Plethora X5 freezed completely today. I was working on the toneprint editor, on a reverb "kill dry", modulation and 20s decay patch (processor killer!), and the Plethora failed. I had the latest version installed.

I'v rebooted the pedal, and it still freezed (the display shows PLETHORA X5 and the firmware version).

I tried to power cycle 3 times, and and also tried a factory reset, placing the XaDy-XLr7-nExg-5ZNk file (without extension) in the Plethora folder, both attempts failed.

I attach a video, showing what's going on, it's a bit long but it shows the complete failing process.

I have no solutions left, would you mind giving me some help, thanks a lot.

    Best regards

    Marc

I plugged the unit with the original power supply, and the Plethora booted normally

It was powered by a Harley Benton powerplant ISO2 pro, with 2 x300DC outputs. Guess this was not delivering enough power to process the startup. That's weird, it was working fine before. The electric lead must have a default. I tried with a 500mA output of the powerplant, it's working fine.

Checking your power supplies should have been one of my first problem resolution step !

yes, if the DSPs are run below minimum all wierd things can happen.

P.s. I Pm you latest Plethora firmware update thsat is about to be released.

Had the exact same problem yesterday, when bulding my first own board. The Plethora was lopping around the boot-sequence, suddently it asked me to confirm Resetting to factory settings, Deleting the board or Continue. Choosed to reset and the board suddently worked again. No trouble since.

    hi Ruezz,

currently tempo feedback as BPM just works via TAP tempo mode when in PLAY mode, but the feature has been requested by 2 other customers beside you and is on the list for the roadmap. being able to set Bpm values in EDIT mode makes pretty good sense.

Would you also like this option in the Toneprint app when programming delay toneprint for your Plethora?

    Best regards,

      Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I think creating the ability to manually enter BPM could work in either play or edit mode by utilizing the parameter turn dial atop each pedal slot. I will be using my plethora in a worship setting so I have set up "a board per song" with all effects needed for that particular song. But worship music often requires very specific bpm on delay times for a variety of delay types. (sometimes 3 different delay types all with very specific, and different bpm's) It is often able to get very close by tapping the tempo in, but it would be much easier to rotate a dial, set it at 36 bpm, and since the plethora automatically saves that setting, it would be set perfectly for the click track every time I access that board.

I like your idea bout being able to manually enter bpm in the toneprint editor, but I wonder if then a bpm is set for a delay (say the analog dotted 8th), and is saved for a certain board (Board 1); does that mean that every time I access the analog dotted 8th for a different board (Board 2) the bpm I originally inputted will default load? If that is the case then I would lose Board 1's BPM when I modified the delay's BPM on Board 2? What do you think?

      Thanks again for the reply,

BPM on both the pedal and app would be great...but on the pedal if I could only pick one.

Just got my Plethora X5 and I'm very happy with it so far.

How can I copy a pedal from one board to another. For example: I created a Flashback delay that I'd like to use on multiple boards. Can I copy this to other boards or do I have to recreate it each time?

If this option is not available please add it to the future feature request as it woul be very helpful.

    Thank you...

For now, there are two options:

      1) save your Flashback delay settings as a toneprint - then it's as simple as loading it in every board you want to use it in;

      2) instead of creating new boards, duplicate the one with your Flashback delay, then replace the other effects. Of course this only works when creating new boards, not when they're already created - at that point the best way of doing it is through toneprints.

So to the best of my knowledge I am running the most current firmware posted on the website but my Ditto won't respond to midi commands. Is there a newer firmware I could try?

which channel are you using for sending Midi cpommands and which firmware have you installed?

I just purchased a TC Electronics G-Natural and I need some help setting it up. Am I able to use the instrument input with an passive pick-up guitar? And I was wondering if I am able to simultaneously use separate settings for mic and guitar inputs.

I received my X5 earlier this week. As best I can tell it's working and sounds great but I have many questions. Just a few (sadly 5 + 1 request at the end) to get started:

    1) How do I backup all my toneprints saved in the X5 board? Assume I load up 127 boards with lots of custom settings and then the unit dies. How do I get my settings into a repaired or new X5? I haven't found a way to do that using the editor and so far I haven't found any files beign saved on my Windows machine.

    2) Related to #1, I accidentally modified board 1. (Whitesnake) How do I get it back to what was shipped from the factory? Is there a 'factory reset' control somewhere?

    3) With the editor open and Board selected the X5 says 'Edit boards from app'. What edits are allowed? I only seem to be able rename or reorder what's there. Can I create a new empty board from the editor?

    4) If I close the editor completely then I seem to be able to create 1 new empty board using the Toneprint knob on the unit. I do not seem to be able to create a 2nd empty board. Is this by design that I have to create AND use the one before creating a 2nd empty slot?

    5) The Editor Help button in the toneprint editor app takes me to a TC Electronic page with no help. Someone should put some editor help on that page.

    6) Lastly, the X5 is running Linux. Please consider releasing a Linux version of the editor that we Linux users would prefer instead of making us use Windows.

    Thanks,

    Mark

      Hi @LGTrader

      1) There's no option to do that for now;

      2) Yup, in Edit mode > Settings > Global > Service > Factory Reset. Bear in mind this will erase all your custom content, etc, etc...

      3) For now, only rename and reorder. To create custom boards, you have to do it from the Plethora itself;

      4) I never experienced that personally, but I'll test out tomorrow and report back...

      5) and 6) I'll leave those for the TC powers that be

Thanks for the quick response and the pointer to factory reset. As the device is brand new this week I have nothing important to lose.

With no way to do backups I'm not 100% I'll keep the device. This IMO is really a major oversite on TC's part to put what is essentially a computer into the consumer marketplace and not have a solution for users to protect their investment. Hopefully they'll solve that soon, or at least make a commitment to do so.

I like your YouTube channel. Very helpful.

IT seems that you can do some fair strange things, like create a board, fill one slot, duplicate it, start editing and remove plugins, then duplicate to create more 'almost empty' slots. The process of creating a new board seems quite **bleep**bersome to me and editing with no 'undo' function and no way to back up my work leaves me unconfident about really using this machine, but I must say I'm liking the sounds and the flexibility so maybe someone from TC will see this thread and consider a backup process soon'ish? I can only hope.
