I had thought that I read somewhere that you could control the X32 across an internet connection (not just the local network, LAN). Has anyone been able to do this successfully? If so, how did you point the port to it and what software were you running to control it?

I'm needing to set up some scenes and snippets remotely for an operator... talking them through it will take too much time, and most likely they'll mess things up from miscommunications.

Just like any other service behind a internet router you can also port forward the X32 Edit port to the internal IP-Address of a X32 console. At the remote side you have to enter the remote external IP-Address where the X32 console is behind to access and control.

Another, saver option, is to create a VPN connection to the remote network and start to control the X32 console by it's local IP-Address over that VPN tunnel. A VPN tunnel give only access to the remote network with a correct username and password (and some VPN options like OpenVPN also make use of SSL keys).

In X32Edit, how do you enter the port number?

You don't Scott. The X32-Edit is fixed at the 10023 port for the X32/M32. The X-Air-Edit is also fixed at the 10024 port for the X-Air/M-Air consoles. Is there a reason why you want to change ports?

:edit: I think you are referring to Vasco's post. I think you need to add the 10023 port to the VPN tunnel.

I have a question for a future project:
When I record a session, where 1 channel has reversed polarity (for instance bottom snare), is that channel recorded also in reversed polarity?

If yes, I can import it in my DAW as it is.

If no, I have to reverse that channel also in my DAW.

Depends on the tap point for the recording.

The polarity inversion is one of the first things that happens in the channel processing, so if you're recording straight off preamps, or directly off a digital source before any processing, then the signal hitting your DAW won't be inverted.

However if you're recording the DO from an actual channel, the earliest tap point on the X32 is "In\LC" which is post the polarity inversion, so signals tapped of channel DOs will have the polarity inversion hitting your DAW.

With the S\DL 16\32 stageboxes, they typically route signals hitting their the AES50 inputs in the 1-16 range to their analogue outs, 17-32 range to the ADATs, and 33-48 range to their ultranet sockets.

Stage whatever signals (eg your mixbuses) you want to appear there in the routing>out1-16\auxout\ultranet\userout tabs (assuming fw v 4+)

(Assuming you've staged those signals in the out1-16 tab, and using the AES50 A socket on the console to connect to the stagebox)

      Go Routing>AES50A, and set Outputs17-32 to out1-16.

Can anyone provide information on obtaining a replacement fader for the Midas M32 console?  I can find them on the internet, but those that I find appear to be the the correct fader (ProFader 100mm), but have the mounting studs and not the longer bracket with the screw holes at each end.  Apparently the motor has gone out on mine.  Tried reseating the connectors to no avail.

    Thanks,

    Richard.

Have you tried contacting Midas service on this? If you registered your M32 when you got it the Warrantee is extended but I am not sure for how long. May by they will send you a replacement so you can put it in yourself.

Yes, I did, if submitting an online case to the support counts.  I received the automated response from MT Care, but nothing further to date.  If I could determine proper part number and souce, I would be happy to purchase and replace it myself.

Is there a part number om it. I am pretty sure that Midas makes their own faders.

      Is it this one? https://www.midasconsoles.com/Categories/Midas/Mixers/Accessories/PRO-FADER-%28200-mm%29/p/P0AHW#googtrans(en|en)

@KevinM32 Fader Mount (full view)M32 Fader Mount (full view)M32 Fader mount (note screw hole)M32 Fader mount (note screw hole)Well, yes and no.  That is the correct fader.  However, the mounting arrangement is not the same (at least on my M32.)  The fader shown (which I actually purchased earlier off the internet based on a salesperson assurance and internet reviews (which I guess I should go correct)) has the "M3 threaded pillar fixings on 120.0 mm (4.7") fixing centres" mounting arrangement.  The failed fader (which I have removed for documentation) has a longer top frame and two screw holes on each end.  I have attached two photos as examples.  I considered disassembling the orignal fader and putting the required frame on the replacment one (as shown by you), but determined that was not optimal as I was unsure I could successfully replace the plastic gear and decided against it.  I'm not going to "duct tape and bailing wire" a perfectly good mixer (yet.)

Hopefully someone from Midas will come along with the correct part, or my support ticket will provide the correct answer.  But thanks for trying.

I have an X32, a dn32 card, a waves server one, a network switch, and waves multi-rack. I want to know if it is possible (routing wise) to have 16 channels of waves insert along with an insert on the l&r main outs.

This is an X32 routing issue.. can I use the auxes and the channel inserts at the same time.

    How would I Route that?

      Hi,

Yes I think it is possible. I do not have a Soundgrid Server but set up a Native Version of what you are asking about. Routing should be the same. I wrote about it on my blog with pictures you can read here: https://survivethegig.com/x32-waves-channel-and-bus-inserts/

If you already know how to route the channels and just need to add the Main Bus you do it through Aux In Remap. This requires using Card or User In 1-2, 1-4, or 1-6 though and your channels will have to be routed after it. There are a few steps to go through but I covered them in the blog post above.

      Hope this helps.

-Standard Mute off for sends to busses. This is logical because you don't want to be putting it off when you are 5 minutes to showtime and notice that all your input channels to your busses are muted. You lose a lot of time with that.

    -Standard EQ on (disputable)

    - Custom controls for channel specific functions: Gain, trim, Lowcut knob, hicut knob FOR SELECTED CHANNEL. So every time you select a channel, the custom control knows which channel to change.

    - The ability to change folder names and snapchot names inside the wing

    - when using mute groups, the groups are hard muted, maybe give the choise to hard mute or soft mute, could be nice

    - When assigning stereo channels i really get annoyed by the fact that i can only assign channel 11 to 12 for example. I would like to assign channel 11 to 10 too. Maybe with a drag-select functionality. similar to soundcraft VI-series. Many boards have this nowadays and i would like it on the wing too. Saves a lot of time in the middle of a busy evening...

-show control features would be great too. Maybe think of the ability to add text to snapchots so you can write your cues.

Note that these are all possible improvements that I would like to see in the future. I'm really happy with my wing already, but these could take the board to a different level.

    Regards

When using the tap functionality on my wing and assigning it to the custom controls. The wing will do this perfectly to the first 7 buttons and start flashing. At the 8th button it will assign and work. But it doesn't flash. Can this be solved. It's not a hardware problem with me because the button itself works with color when i assign a mute to it.

Does the data wheel on the Wing do anything? or is there a problem with my desk?

No problem with your desk. It currently has very little functionality, but will be used much more in the next firmware release.

Was looking for something else and noted a new firmware version for the DP48,

    New Features 1.3

    • 2 separate stereo reverb processors for separation between Mix A and B

    • Stereo mode for assigning and editing two channels of a Group at the same time (long press)

    • Reverb sends are now post-fader separately for Mix A/B

    • New idle screen with Group names and pre-fader metering overview

    • Quick Group renaming by selecting from a list of common names (long press on idle screen)

    • MIX A/MIX B ‘Meter Screen’ same as idle screen but showing A/B post-fader levels

    • Talkback function using the internal microphones in conjunction with HUB4

    • Talkback signal will be exchanged between all DP48 mixers and M32 consoles via CH48

    • Automatic configuration if Talkback is active:

o Add CH48 to assignment of Group 12 o Rename Group 12 to ‘Talkback’
o Activate ‘MIC +20dB’ in Setup

Configure Talkback in Setup, press and hold MIC button to speak

    Improvements

    • FX return default value set to -10 dB

    • ID and enumeration bugs in remote operation fixed

    • Master units update local preset copy when a X32 broadcast message is received

    • Remote function: group names are sent to remote unit

    • Group PAN had no effect when the group was assigned to a MIX as MY-Group

    • Work on local preset when the remote ID is master

    • Better AES50 error management and faster recovery

    • DP48 on HUB4 master port for remote control

    • Missing X32 messages improved

      Hey Gary @GaryHiggins

Yes this was released a few days ago. Lots of neat new features. The new idle screen means I no longer have to print off strips to label the groups for each band.

Hi, is there a published or otherwise known distance limit to connect the XR-18 to a Windows computer, via USB? I need 20' ideally, and is there a recommended cable for that distance or will an extender work?

    Thanks,

    Patrik

According to USB.org, USB operating specifications limit the maximum length of the cable to 5 meters for full speed devices and 3 meters for any low speed devices. 5 meters is around 16 feet 5 inches, and 3 meters is around 9 feet 10 inches. A X18 USB is low speed I guess.

Many thanks, I'm just wondering what max folks have experienced with PC to XR18 with the USB, annecdotally speaking. Especially now if you're saying it's a lower speed, that will help.
