    We are trying to direct record from the M32 to a MAC Air using Pro Presenter.  The DN32 is seen by the MAC, but the volume is low.  Any suggestions on how to increase the output volume?

      Hello, what tap point are you using? If you use "local" as the source for card out, the gain setting is all you can boost but of course not to the point of distortion. If you change the source of card out using utranet out, out 1-16 or aux out you can then use direct outputs of your ch's at post fader or post eq etc and get some further boost that way.

      Yes, we are using "local outs".  Routing seems difficult - may not be but it's confusing.  And of course the user guide isn't much help.


      So changing to the Ultranet 1-16 outs is there a way to adjust the overall gain or is it still per chanel?

    When I try to record from XAir 18 into Garageband, I am unable to modify the output using the faders, effects, etc. I have tried changing the signal tap points on the USB Out page via iPad --analog, post-eq, post-fader -- without any change in the USB signal. The only control that seems to work is the channel gain.

    Any suggestions on other ways to modify the signal?

    Our church uses the XAir-18 for live worship, and now we're trying to use it for streaming, as well.

      The USB out page shows that signals are sent post preamp (analogue tap point,) except for USB1+2, which are set to the analogue output (which is really the input) of bus6.  Although channels feed bus6 post-eq so you can make your livestream mix, you don't have any FX turned up in that bus.

      At present as Craig said, all USB ch's are being sent out pre everything so you won't get any XR ch processing to your daw. If you want them to include ch processing, including fader position and pan you need to make all usb ch sends (including 1/2) be Post fader. Also if bus 6 is your stream feed and sending it 2x as USB 1 and 2 is to get a stereo type feed. You might be better off linking bus 5 and 6 then you can actually pan each ch to that bus pair. Make USB out 1 be bus 5 and USB out 2 be bus 6. Daw ch's 1/2 should record your live feed stereo and 3-18 should record the rest of your ch's (17/18 being aux)

      So if I understand correctly, in order to send USB signal with effects and fader, I need to:


      1. Change USB send settings to "Post EQ + Mute" for any channels we're sending?


      2. Increase/decrease Fx via the Bus 6 faders, not just at the individual channel level?


      Sorry to be asking such basic questions. There is no one in our organization who has any knowledge of sound board operation. What little I have learned has been from YouTube and reading the manual, both of which leave many unanswered questions.

    Hi guys!

    So with churches closed we had to record our band for recorded services. I recorded 32 channel outs on an pc and mixed them afterward in Ableton with waves plugins. This really boosted the quallity of our sound and we want to try using these plugins live aswell.
    Now to my question. Is it possible to run my channels from the X32 into my DAW and than back into the X32 with the processed sounds?

    And how would i be doing this?

      Yes you could do this but latency may be a problem for live use.


       


      Are you recording the preamp outputs (by routing the Card (USB) outputs from local or AES50 sources)? If so you could route the Card (USB returns) to the required channels on Routing -> Inputs. This would insert the DAW between the preamps and the channel inputs.

      We are recording from AES50. We've got an X32 compact for FOH use, an X32 rack for inear use and a S32 to connect all the instruments.


      So route AES50 channels into DAW like i have been doing with the multitrack recording. How would i route them back into the X32 so i can still use these faders to controll volume?

      Presuming you're going S32>Rack(Mons)>Compact(FOH)>DAW


      Routing on Rack remains the same.  On the Compact, Routing>Inputs, and set Inputs1-32 to Card 1-32.  This will get you your DAW-processed signals back into the FOH console for further processing\summing.


       


      It's a bit more complicated (though still doable) to get these DAW-processed signals to the monitor console as well, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the latency the DAW plugins will add to the signals.  Although the latency added might be ok for FOH, it's probably not going to be ok for monitors, especially IEMs.  Also, you're probably going to want to ensure that you send all signals to the FOH console, even if you're only running plugins on a handful, and make the DAW run some sort of automatic delay compensation across everything to ensure the signals all remain coherent when they're summed.

      I should recommend Waves Multirack instead of your DAW. I guess Multirack will have less latency then a DAW has plus Multirack takes care automatically of the latency ( if you run their latency calculation once on all your outgoing channels).
      I have tried S32 -> X32 -> Multirack -> X32 -> P16 to IEM once, but that doesn't work because of the latency what is created, it was unduable to play.....
      But you take your mons direct from the X32 rack, so latency will occur only to the FOH sound and than it might work... trial and error is the best way to find out...

      Thanks! We don't run P16's though. Just normal outputs into an headphone amp with wired signal to musicians. (cheap but good) Also i thought that inears never needed the processed sounds anyway. Or is that just my assumption? I have never ran them processed anyways and musicians have never cared.

    I am really struggling with getting basic signal flow going to and from protools.  I am also trying to use this as front end fro a streaming situation.  I will pay a person with real knowledge to can help me solve this.  I work in tech support at a major university and this kinda stuff never gives me a hard time.

      I'm not sure what console you have, since they never made an M32 Rack. The assignments of signals to the DN9630 is done on the Routing, AES50 (A or B) screen in banks of 8. If you want to record the signals directly after the preamps, mirror the Routing, Inputs screen on the appropriate AES50 screen.


       


      For the streaming requirements, it depends on the software used to do that. Many apps only accept USB 1/2 if you are using a Windows OS. If you are using a Mac or linux, you have more flexibility.


       


      For signals from the DN9630 to the console, it depends on how many you want returned. If you want just a stereo return (master out of the DAW), you can assign Card 1-2 to the Aux In Remap (on the Routing, Inputs screen). That will bring those signals to the Aux 1 and 2 channel strips.


       


      If you give us more details of your requirements, we can add more detailed solutions.

      Paul @Paul_Vannatto  many thanks,  I meant m32C. my mistake.   I truly appreciate your knowledge and help. I am serious about the payment offer, I feel i am asking a lot and that offering something in return is very important. 


      let me try to say more about these uses: in both of the following situations the klark Teknik DN9630 gets me into the computer from the M32C. 


      The simple one is recording to protools, I'd like to have the option to be able to print the dynamics, eq and FX in the m32C to pro tools tracks.  I mostly do demos at home working quickly is very important.  I hire out the proper recording, mix and master.  The songs come first. 


      The second situation is sending a stereo mix made up of the 8 inputs that come in on the optical card out to the computer for streaming.  right now I am looking at OBS or Eccam as a streaming app to both record and interface with various streaming platforms.   I am on a mac book pro.

      Thanks for the details. An M32C does change things, since it relies on external inputs/outputs such as stageboxes etc. So I assume you are using a stagebox connected to one of the M32C AES50 ports and the DN9630 connected to the other port. Also if you want to use the channel processing of the M32C (EQ, dynamics, gate, etc.), that changes the routing requirements significantly. It also assumes that you are using the M32-Edit app and not the console display for controlling the console (which is a good thing IMO). If you are attempting to try and do this routing, etc. with the iPad app, don't bother, unless you want to lose more hair than you really want to (and I can't help you, since I don't own any Apple products).


       


      When setting up complex routing, the first thing I do is to layout the interconnectivity mapping. For example, you might have the following ([A] and [B] are the AES50 ports):


      S16 [A] <-> [B] S16 [A] <-> [A] M32C [B] <-> [A] DN9630


      If you mapping is different, it will subsequently change the routing. Since you want the channel strip processing, you will need to first assign the individual channel outputs using the Routing, Out 1-16 and Ultranet screens. There you can assign Direct Chan Out and also change the taps (right clicking the circles) to probably either pre-fader or post-fader. Then you would assign these outputs in banks of 8 to the Routing, AES50 B (if you are using the mapping above) in order to send it to the DN9630.


       


      For streaming, since you have a Macbook Pro, most apps (such as OBS) can probably select the various USB inputs (which are outputs of the DN9630). Most apps default to using USB 1/2 (and Windows users typically are stuck with this default). I switched from Windows to linux in January and also now have more possibilities. 


       


      You mentioned an optical card. What card would that be?

      I have no stage boxes in this rig. the only analog. i/o is done via the Focusrite Clarett octo pre . https://focusrite.com/en/adat-mic-pre/clarett/clarett-octopre. it has some ad/da functionality.  8 in 8 out  and it talk to the M32c via light pipe , that box for the light pipe card is attached its an x-Adat from Behringer 


      the Klark Teknik DN9630 is connected to the AES50 A port and in turn talks to the computer via USB

      Just to add my meager 2 cents. If going straight from from your Adat card to a computer you probably would only need to change your "card out" routing source to P16 or Out 1-16 instead of "Local" Using those routing menu sources allows you to dictate the tap points needed to record full ch processing that can include Gate, Comp, EQ and pre/post fader. (eg P16 ch 1 = Direct out of ch1 post fader etc) Local is pre everything and can't be otherwise. Doing the same post fader for Main L/R as the source for 2 of your recorded ch's will also capture your complete mix The DN9630 should be able to also accommodate the ultranet (or out 1-16) as the source of up to 16 aes50 ch's which should allow the same tap points when using it.

    We are starting to livestream and we just got a M32R to run our broadcast feed. We also want to throw a Behringer X32 in the mix for a separate monitor board. We have a DL32 stage box to run all of our channels.

    What would be the sequence for us to hook everything up properly and get the best result?

      There are a couple of ways to do it. The way I think makes the most sense is to go DL32>Monitors>FOH>Livestream.  Monitor console is clock master, the other consoles slave off it.

      As Craig said there are a few ways to do this. A couple of considerations: Will you ever use preamps from the monitor board or always just the DL32 preamps? If you might sometimes use the monitor mixer preamps, the X32 then as the live feed board makes sense to me. Why waste any M32 mic pre's for the live feed when it will only mirror aes50? The other consideration is where the preamps of the DL32 are to be controlled from. The A port side of the DL controls preamps and its output assignments. So another possible scenario where the monitor position mixer controls preamps:


       


      M32 FOH A <>A X32 (as live feed) x32 sync A


       


      M32 FOH B<>A M32R B<>A DL32  (M32R as master. M32 FOH sync B)


       


      Monitor M32R controls DL outputs and all preamp control. M32R mirrors its inputs via aes50 to FOH. FOH mirrors aes50 to X32 for live stream.

      The only one that really matters is the A socket on the DL32. The rest are interchangeable. However for consistency in routing tables, I’d go;


      DL32(A)>Monitors(B)


      Monitors(A)>FOH(B)


      FOH(A)>Livestream(B)

    Until the HUB4 is available... My intent is to connect a Wing to a DL32 via AES50 A. And then to daisy chain the DP48s from port B on the DL32. 

    First... Will this work at all or will I have to run another data cable to the stage and configure and run them separately via the Wing's AES50 B output?

    And second... If so, will the DL32 just pass the same 48 AES50 A outputs it receives from the Wing along to the DP48s via its B port with a 1 to 1 mapping?

    Bummer that no names are passed yet... I hope that gets added to the Wing soon.

      Yes that is correct. Whatever you send down the AES50 pipe from the Wing will be seen by both the DL32 (first 16 channels) and the DP48 (all 48 channels).

      The channel strip names are sent via AES50 and can be seen on both the Edit and Assign screens. If you are wanting the group names, those will need to be assigned using the names.csv file in the DP48 folder of the SD card, since the Wing does not have the DP48 interface yet that the X32 now has.

A DL32 doesn't pass aes50 1-32 from its B port to another mixer (DP more a mixer than a stagebox), it passes its local inputs 1-32 and then aes50 33-48 gets passed straight through. I guess that could end up fine anyway if the DP48 uses the same 32 DL preamps as its ch sources. Even if it does I think I might choose another DP48 dedicated port and keep the aes50 ch assignments seperate.

      Oops! You are correct Gary. Totally forgot that change with the DL32 (and S32). 


       


      @LTisdale , unfortunately Gary is correct. You will need to run a second AES50 to the DP48. If it was an S16, DL16, SD8 or SD16, you could daisy chain the stagebox and DP48 (done it). I don't own (or use) a DL32 or S32.

      Additionally if you use the DL (or any stagebox model) for its xlr outs, adat or p16 outs for things like traditional monitors or center fills, iq speakers, foh etc. The aes50 assignments that work well for those might not work out well for the DP48 anyway. Only to say a second port (the Wing does have 3) and second aes50 output assignment could end up being a good and necessary thing. Needing another, perhaps long, cable is a bit of a drawback.

      Thanks for catching that Gary... And yes, my long term plan was always to eventually use AES50 B so that we can use a clean set of 48 sources for the DP48s that map in a 1 to 1 manner (and not risk someone deleting the outputs that are feeding the mains and subs by keeping the AES50 A outs unlocked in order to dual-purpose them...).  We just didn't pull a second (or third) cable when we pulled the first one and are going live pretty soon.


      Since that won't work... 


      Our installer purchased a p16D as the hub4 is not available yet. I was of the understanding that the DP48s are AES50 devices and are entirely incompatible with Ultranet. But I was watching a video yesterday and saw a P12 and P16 Ultranet mode in the setup menu for them (with no explanation...). Do they have a compatibility mode of some sort? And if so would this work with WING and DL32 sending 33-48 down AES50 A to the Ultranet port? POE this way? I really don't like this idea. (But then I also don't like the idea of a stage full of wall warts, extension cords, and data cables to temporarily chain them all together either ) . But if we can't get another cable or two pulled in time, is it even an option? Obviously only 16 sources this way (or functionally maybe only 12 with just 12 "select" buttons).

      Some acronyms\abbreviations\shortenings are to do with audio, others are to do with networking.  I don't think there is official documentation.  If you can provide a list of ones you're not sure about, I'm sure people will be happy to tell you what they mean.

      Hi Leroy @lhmirand ,


      Here is an explanation of these terms:


      AFL - After Fader Level, meaning the signal is affected by the fader (tapped off the signal path after the fader).


      PFL - Pre Fader Level, meaning the signal is not affected by the fader (tapped off the signal path before the fader).


      DIM - probably you are seeing this in the Monitor screen. Stands for diminish. When you press a solo button, you can diminish (or attenuate) the default signal by a certain amount (DIM gain)


      DIN-OSC - Allows OSC commands to be received from the DIN (midi) port on the back of the console. The X-Air's mother tongue is the OSC protocol.


      USB/OSC - Allows OSC commands to be received from the USB port of the XR18/MR18 (not applicable to the XR12, XR16, MR12).

      Just like any other service behind an internet router you can also port forward (UDP on port 10024 I suppose) the XAIR Edit port to the internal IP-Address of a XAIR console. At the your side you have to enter the remote external IP-Address where the XAIR console is behind to access and control.
      The portforwarding must be configured in the router of the person you want to support, so teamviewer will be a more practical solution

    I am running this configuration

    X32 as FOH to 2 S16.

    Leaving the FOH X32 via AES50A to the S16 into the AES50A side of one out the B and into the second AES50A side.

    I want to come out of the AES50B side of the FOH console into the A side of a X32 rack but would like to know how to configure the routing on the X32 FOH to send those signals coming from the S16s to the X32 rack mount for broadcast and live stream.

    I saw the rought set up in this video but no routing guidelines are there to go from the X32 FOH to a broadcast X32.  I would be going from the AES50B oon the FOH board to the AES50A of the broadcast X32

      On the FOH console:


      Routing>AES50B


      Outputs 1-32: AES50A 1-32


      ^This sets the signals to be output at the FOH's B socket to be whatever is incoming on the FOH's A socket (the signals from the S16s.)


       


      Then on the Broadcast X32Rack:


      Routing>Inputs


      Input1-32: AES50A 1-32


      ^This sets the broadcast console to get input signals from whatever is connected to its AES50A socket: (the FOH console, which is outputting signals from the S16s.)


       


      You'll need to ensure both consoles are set at the same sample rate, and set the broadcast console to slave its clock off the FOH console connected to its AES50A socket (Setup>Global, Synchronization:AES50A.)

    I work at a theatre which has an X32 running v2.10.    Can I upgrade directly to v4.02, or do I have to upgrade to an interim version (say v3.x) before I can jump to v4.x?   Does v4 support all serial numbers, or only a certain range?  I was not able to find a complete set of release notes listing all the versions (list of improvements, feature adds, and bug fixes), does one exist and I just didn't look int eh correct place?    Similarly, I've not been able to find older firmware versions on the website, are they somewhere where I couldn't find them?  I'd like to have a copy of 2.10 just in case something goes awry during the update process and I would need to revert to it.   Similarly, all the questions I've asked are things I've encountered in doing upgrades with other types of devices

      Yes, you can install v4.02 straight up, however it's recommended that you take note of the console's network settings, and backup any scenes\shows\library presets first.


       


      Also, you may also need to upgrade the firmware on any digital stageboxes you're using too.


       


      Finally, double check your remote apps.  A newer console firmware will probably require a new version of the remote control apps.  Some newer versions of the control apps won't work on older hardware that the previous versions did, so you might need to update your remote control hardware.


       


      I don't think there's a full list of release changes for all firmwares in one document, just the most recent one.  To get the full list you'd probably have amalgamate the contents of the release notes of the last v1.x release before v2 was released, the last v2.x release before v3 was released, and the last v3.x release before v4.x was released.


       


      I recommend contacting @Paul_Vannatto re older fw versions, he's probably got them all backed up.


       


      PS, Paul, if such a list exists of the full change list all the way from v1.0>4.02 I'd be interested in a copy (or links to the individual firmwares so with release notes so I can compile a list myself.)  I'd find it interesting to see how many new features have been added (for free) to a console over its 7 year or so lifespan with no significant hardware changes.

      Welcome to the forum. As Craig @CraigFowler mentioned you can upgrade from 2.10 to 4.02, making sure you have backed up everything and taken note of all settings in the Setup screens (except for the preamps screen). 


       


      I do indeed have firmware 2.10. Unfortunately it won't allow it to be attached (this time it gave an error message). So here is a link to the update on my Google drive.


       


      Craig, I'll see if I can put together a list of all firmware update points, but may take awhile.

      @LQS Larry, I have never updated my two S16 while I always have followed up with every update that came out for the X32/X32rack. So the S16 run still at their originally firmware when I purchased them back in 2013 and work fine till today.
