One of the things I miss on the Wing that exists on the X32 is the input versus output meters on the effects units. The one I find most useful is on the vintage compressors:

    in-out.jpg

I find it quite helpful to be able to see what is being done to the level of the signal.

On the Wing I could see this feature, if it could be made to fit in the UI, being in multiple steps in the signal chain; EQ, Dynamics, Inserts, etc.

Just a suggestion in case anyone on the Wing team is looking.

    Thanks,

    -mal

    Hello,

I wanted to submit a feature request or hear any thoughts about it. I wondered about that a long time ago: Why must the mute button be only on/off with no fade time? If you unmuted a channel half a second too late, the audience would definitely hear it because of the hard cut. But if channels would be able to unmute and mute with a fade time of for example 300ms or lower, the change would be a lot smoother. Maybe this could be useful in live situations.

I would be happy to hear any thoughts on that and/or why this is such a bad idea

      Hi Lennart @lenfinalt ,

Welcome to the forum. Your idea is not a bad idea, but is currently not practical. The reason is that the current control protocol for the Wing is not time based, similar to the OSC protocol of the X32/M32 and X-Air/M-Air. That is why I provided the fade, cross-fade, etc. tidbit commands with Live Toolbox. This is being ported to the Wing platform. Because the Wing control protocol is very different, it will take some time before it is ready for release. If you are inclined and capable to program in C, Patrick @PatrickGMaillot has developed a C library for the Wing called Wapi

      Hello,

As Paul mentioned there are some limitations due to the non-time based aspect of most functions available in WING and other consoles such as OSC based X32, M32, etc.

With WING, a delay on functions such as MUTE would have to 1) take place within the console FW itself and this has an impact on the computing actions in the console and the Behringer programmers cannot think of all the exotic things some users may want to do at some point with using their console, or 2) take place using an external application IF there's a way to separate surface controls from the actual actions available in the console.

For example you would declare that the MUTE button doesn't have its native audio processing function, but is simply generating a 'surface control' code that an application can catch and act upon. The app is then very simple to write.

Behringer has not developed this for X32, leaving the X32 surface controls always linked to internal/audio processing. WING so far is in the same situation. I hope this situation changes in the future and a real, opened, surface control mode becomes available. But this may take time, if it happens one day.

@Paul_Vannatto Thank you, I will have a look at Wapi. This looks very interesting to me!

@PatrickGMaillot Okay, this makes sense to me. Then the possibility to separate the control surface from the internal processing or hook on specific actions would be great. Maybe there will be an option for people who want to tweak their console a bit in the future.

I would like to thank both of you for the detailed answers! Have a great evening.

I just got 6 DP48s' really nice looking and solid feel.

My issue is the Midas DP48 is not getting name or color assignments from Wing.I already updated it from the Midas website 5/21/20, so I have the latest firmware 1.2.

I followed the instructions from the quick start guide on assigning by name and color through setup. I dont know what else to do. I checked in routing on the Wing that all my customizations  from AES50A/local and aux were being seen on the AES50B side.(B is what I am using for dp48s A is for the digital snakes).  Help please? any thoughts?

Everything else is working though and it sounds great.

The Wing won’t pass that to DP48’s like the x/m32. Hope in a future firmware update it will be done.

      Hi Michael @senod138 ,

The DP48 has a new firmware (1.3) as of May 20. Also make sure the Wing firmware is 1.06. The channel names and color should be sent from the Wing to the DP48 (but not through a stagebox - eg. SD8) and should be available in the Edit and Assign screens.

Group names can be added by creating a file called names.csv and placed in the DP48M folder of SD card. The group names must have a max of 8 characters in length and delimited by commas. For example:

      PaulVox,JohnVox,RingoVox,LGuitar,RGuitar,Bass,Keys,Leslie,Drums,,,

    Hello,

I'm using X Air Android app to control XR16 mixing console. Please is there any way how to chnage the color schema the app uses ? Even manual way by editing some file would be ok..  I would like to use a hybrid device, which is actually 8" Android tablet equipped with e-ink b/w display, to control it - which works, but some of the color used by default are almost not readable (The advantage for using such device is very good visibility even on direct sunlight, and also good batttery lifeteme as no backlight is needed)

Hello Pavel, welcome to the community.

I don't think this is possible with the XAir app for Android. The Mixing Station XAir Pro app has selectable colour schemes, though. This app is a later development of the standard XAir app by the same author. It has many improvements including the ability to create custom layouts. The Pro version is a paid-for app but it is well-worth the small price. The app is frequently updated with user-requested features.

    Hello,

    "wapi" stands for WING API

I just uploaded a first release (v0.1) of an application programming interface (API) for C language. It is available along with function prototypes and a small example at https://github.com/pmaillot/wapi/

    Work in progress, obviously

I heard there will be more interfaces available soon, probably for other languages, and that's great news.

Hello, is it a routing issue? Sort of sounds like it. It may be best to post your scene here for us to take a look at. Lots of eager helpers! Also a few more details on the issue would help.

Thank you for your response, I performed a full reset of the console but no more results.
the breakdown happened at the start of a concert, the console worked correctly for a week without problem

I have been among the more critical voices with regard to this subject in the past....SO in the interest of being fair and giving credit where credit is due....There is a noted improvement here! I recently (in the last week) registered a new purchase and was glad to see an actual email response as well as getting my redemption code for tracktion (so what if I'm owed dozens) The wheels turned slowly but they do now turn!...so Thank You!

Gary - I just registered Q1202USB mixer that I purchased last month.  Based on your recent experience, how long should I expect it to take to receive the Tracktion redemption code?

I received acknowledgements and download codes for the last two products that I registered within one working day. As it's the weekend, you may have to wait until Monday.

Thanks for the quick response, Rex! I don't suppose that you have a link to what the entitlements per device are, do you?  I'm a little lost as to what I am going to be able to use.

      @amoricanseth

They should send you a download code for Waveform (DAW). There is some more software available on Q1202USB Downloads which includes an old version of Audacity. You can get the latest version of Audacity (free) from Audacity Downloads . Waveform is a more fully-featured DAW package but Audacity is easier to use for basic stereo recording and editing.

Not sure what's up, but I can't see the edited version of this after my recent updates in the other thread.  Figured I'd get some learning done and share instead of doing real work while I'm stuck indoors.

DBX 160 - Hard Knee VCA Type Compressor noted for use on drums.  Fixed slower attack and slower release.  Compression adjusts the ratio.  Threshold acts as typical threshold.  Output gain compensates for compression.

    BDX 160 Compressor/LimiterBDX 160 Compressor/Limiter

DBX 560 VCA Overeasy Compressor, great general purpose on instruments.  Easy button enables soft knee.  Threshold is traditional style.  Compression ratio allows for negative ratios above infinity, reducing the output signal level below the threshold setting

Fairchild 670 - Vari-Mu Comp/Limiter Definitive Mastering Limiter, great on mixbuses.  This is a stereo linked version without the Mid/Side capability of the original.  Driving input gain warms up the sound running stronger signal into the emulated tubes.  Increasing Threshold control increases compression amount.  Time Constant control selects  between fixed attack/relese settings. 1: 200micro/300milli, 2: 200micro/800milli, 3: 400micro/2sec, 4: 800micro/5sec, 5: 200 micro/2sec single&10sec multipeak, 6: 400 micro/300milli &10sec multi peak & 25sec constant.  DC Bias adjusts ratio and knee.

Teletronix LA-2A - Warm optical compressor great on vocals, bass, horns, strings.  Fixed slow attack, slow release, ratio.  Compress is 3:1, Limit is infinite:1.  Turn up Peak Reduction to increase amount of compression, essentially a reverse threshold.  Gain is post-compression makeup gain.  VU meter trails actual compression and you typically get more than you actually see.

    Leveling Amplifier 2ALeveling Amplifier 2A

Emperical Labs EL8 Distressor - Bass, snare, kick, things you need to smack down tight but can emulate multiple classic compressors.  This version ditches the audio distortion generation modes.  Ratio adjustment controls ratio, knee and threshold settings.  3:1 and lower are soft knee, 4:1 and 6:1 are soft knee below the threshold and move to hard knee above threshold.  10:1 is a special optical type compression.  10:1, Attack 10 Release 0 emulates an LA-2A.  Nuke is a brickwall limiter.  Input drives the signal into the threshold.  5-5-5-5 on the knobs is the classic starting point.
