    MIDAS M32 V 3.04 Firmware

The M32 Firmware Update V 3.0 features performance enhancements to the MIDAS M32 operating system. The Version 3.0 firmware adds automixing with Dugan-style gain sharing on two independent groups to the input channel 1-8 processing. Mixing speech oriented events such as boards or panels, presentations, corporate or worship events from MIDAS M32 has never been easier. The automatic mixer algorithm dependably distributes the total amount of gain among the assigned channels in the same group, considering their speech level, fader level and the adjustable weighing factors. The speaker with the highest combination of volume, fader level and weighing factor will receive higher gain in the mix, while the others would be attenuated by the same amount, ensuring a stable low background noise floor without any gating/ducking artifacts. The update to 3.0 also allows you to control the MIDAS M32 remotely using Behringer X-TOUCH control surfaces via Ethernet network or MIDI, directly.

MIDAS is constantly adding new features and making enhancements to this extremely stable operating system, so that you always experience the best possible performance from your M32. Visit midasconsoles.com and check for updates regularly.

Note: It is recommended that you backup all data (export Show and Libraries to USB) before updating, as a firmware upgrade may erase data currently stored on your M32. Please be aware that firmware 3.0 is required for our new M32-Edit 3.0 on PC / Mac / Linux computers, preferably in wired networks. Connect the M32 to a Wifi router for controlling it wirelessly with M32-Mix 2.3 or higher on Apple iPads (min. iOS 7), or with X/M32-Mixingstation for Android (min. 4.0). Note that automixing control will be supported on the iPad in a future release of the M32-Mix app.

    ENHANCEMENTS
    • Supports new X32-EDIT 3.0 remote control application for Win/MacOSX/Linux/RPi2

    NEW FEATURES
    • NEW Automixing option for input channels 1-8 with adjustable weighing and metering

    • 2 independent automix groups available to cater for separate source groups or zones

    • Channel scribble displays indicate the automix group assignment “X” or “Y” in channels 1-8

    • Automix Group X and Group Y Master switches can be assigned to function buttons

    • New cross-over filter option in Main LR and Mono/Center bus EQs

    • New output phase inversion switch available on all outputs, aux outs and Ultranet channels

    • Now supports networked and MIDI remote control directly from BEHRINGER X-TOUCH control surfaces

    Dear all,

We're very pleased to announce that a new firmware update (v1.7) for the DL32 Stage Box is now available as a free download on the Midas website.

    http://bit.ly/DL32_firmware_v1_7

The firmware update 1.7 for DL32 adds performance improvements and new features to the I/O box operating system. This new version improves AES3 (AES/EBU) status bits, adds MIDI remote control of head amps and prevents clicks when using the Mute All Outputs function with very high subsequent gain.

The firmware update can easily be done via USB using a Windows PC/laptop computer. Please follow the update instructions at the end of this document.

This new DL32 Firmware version contains:

    New Features
    • Hold the MUTE button during power-on to disable the fan
    • Version 1.3 with increased fan voltage to support new fan model
    • Version 1.5 includes aes/ebu validity and status bits changed (fixing no-sound issue with Lab.gruppen iPD series)
    • Version 1.6 adds MIDI preamp remote control (as in DL16)
    • Version 1.7 Mute all function changed to digital mute, only

    MIDI Remote Control
    • Note: The DL32 will only accept MIDI controls when its preamps are not controlled from
    a console (i.e. M32 series) already
    • When DL32 is connected to any AES50 clock master that does not control its preamps, (e.g. Lynx AES16e-50), then its rear panel MIDI input allows controlling head amp gain and phantom power
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH01 CC80...95, 0-19 > Input 1-16, Gain, 2.5 dB steps, -2.5 dB...45 dB
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH01 CC96...111, 0/127 > Input 1-16, Phantom power, on/off
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH02 CC80...95, 0-19 > Input 17-32, Gain, 2.5 dB steps, -2.5 dB...45 dB
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH02 CC96...111, 0/127 > Input 17-32, Phantom power, on/off

    Requirements:
Windows (WinXP or higher) PC with USB connector and administrator account required for running the updater executable (DL32update_1-7.exe)

    Update Process:
    1. Download and unpack the updater zip file from midasconsoles.com on your Windows PC
    2. While the DL32 is switched off, connect its USB port to your PC using a standard USB cable (type A -- type B)

      Hello,

Thanks for you post. I'm making this comment because I'm trying to update the firmware of my DL32 but the DL32 is not recognised by the PC. As soon as I boot the DL32 when connected to the computer the PC shows a message saying "USB device not recognised". I'm connecting the DL32 while is turned off and then I'm turning it on while connected. Because of this I haven't been able to run the updater and therefore my M32C which is up to date is not recognising the DL32. I've tried this with another PC and the same issue occurs. What could be the reason?

Thanks for your help in advanced.

      Hey Fred,

No, in the end I wasn't able to update the firmware of my DL. My solution was to sent back the unit and get a new one from Midas.

    Dear all,

The M32 Firmware Update V 2.14 features performance enhancements to the MIDAS M32 operating system. The V 2.14 firmware improves the support for MIDAS DL152...DL155 products. It also improves the linked control over Turbosound iQ series loudspeakers, that are connected via P16 Ultranet, for concurrent remote control of EQ presets and speaker sound modelling. These loudspeaker profiles can be stored in snippets and assigned to user buttons for immediate recall or A/B comparisons. It also fixes an issue with DN32-USB reporting the console sample rate incorrectly after changing the rate on the console without rebooting.

Please be aware that firmware 2.14 requires minimum M32-Edit 2.3 on PC / Mac / Linux computers in wired networks, and with M32-Mix 2.2 on Apple iPads (iOS 6 or 7) for wireless networking.

    Enhancements 2.14:
    - iQ Setup page now accessible with Layer up/down buttons
    - Recall of grouped iQ speakers' settings corrected
    - Inactive insert issue with USB activity during start-up fixed
    - Indication of DL152...DL155 preamps corrected
    - Duplicated messages suppressed when the same MIDI control is assigned to more than one button
    - Sample rate reporting of X-USB and DN32-USB cards, after changing the sample rate without rebooting the console, is improved

The M32-EDIT 2.4 is the latest editing software update created specifically for the M32 console series. This update provides powerful remote control for all functions, as well as off-line editing and show preparation. M32-EDIT communicates via UDP/OSC protocol through the M32 Ethernet port, and facilitates the remote control or setting of virtually all functions of the M32 console. Real-time level meters are displayed for all audio channels, along with user-defined icons and names. The top left section mimics the console's main display, while the lower part represents the channel fader sections. All elements closely emulate the M32 operation, and hence allow for operational training sessions – even when the console is unavailable for hands-on experience.

It is possible to edit multiple consoles on the same network concurrently via several instances of M32-EDIT, by selecting their individual IP addresses. It is also possible to run several instances of M32-EDIT and M32-MIX (for iPad) concurrently on several devices, with all controlling the same M32 console. The M32-EDIT communication is optimised for the support of up to four wired network clients per M32 console. We recommend using the M32-MIX application for iOS6 wireless control via your Apple iPad.

V 2.4 now offers new graphics routines with automatic or manual scaling of the editor window to any size between 1000 and 2000 pixels width, for matching your physical display size. It also features the revised Setup structure of recent M32 firmware updates up to 2.14, and the console remote initialization is improved. The firmware DCA-Mute and Hard-Mute options are now also remote controllable from M32-EDIT 2.4. The application surface offers two Talkback buttons for direct accessibility and a new Fine mode for sensitive fader movements.

For friends of the Raspberry Pi2, we also compiled M32-EDIT V2.4 for this extremely cost-efficient platform. We successfully tested on a RPi2 Model B 1GB running on Rasbian (Debian) Linux, and you can find a corresponding archive on the MIDAS M32 downloads page.

    New Features
    - Automatic or manual scaling of the editor window
    - Revised Setup/Config and Setup/Global structure
    - DCA Mute and Hard Mute options supported
    - RTA peak hold and decay adjustments
    - Talkback buttons available at the fader section
    - New Fine mode for smooth fader movements

    Enhancements
    - Improved remote initialisation
    - Several bug fixes

    System Requirements

    Console firmware V2.14 recommended.

There are currently four separate archives available for download, for Windows PC, Mac OSX and Linux PC and RPi2 respectively. Up to four computers running the editor can control the same console concurrently. Several instances of the editor can be run on the same machine in order to control several consoles concurrently.

    - Compatible to Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system software
    - Compatible to Mac OSX 10.6.8, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 or 10.10 operating system software
    - Compatible to Linux operating system software, tested with Ubuntu 14.04, 12.04 and Wine
    - Compatible to RaspberryPi, tested on a RPi2 Model B 1GB running on Rasbian (Debian GNU)

      JonBurgstrom Hi,

You might want to do a "search and replace" for "X32CORE" and replace it with "M32C" in the above M32 firmware announcement. Just saying.

      Hi Jon,

Actually- a few of the v2.12 updates pertain to the X32CORE specifically, not the M32C.

      Hi Jack,

Mostly, yes. When new firmware comes out, it pertains to all variants of the M32, however in some cases certain features may be optimized for a specific console - which will be noted in the firmware remarks. Hope this helps!

    Dear all,

Our latest control app, M32-EDIT Version 2.5 is now available for download.

The Midas M32-EDIT 2.5 is the latest editing software update created specifically for Midas’ M32 console series. The top left section mimics the console’s main display, while the lower part represents the channel fader sections.

    What’s new in M32-EDIT Version 2.5 (Update from M32-EDIT 2.4)

V 2.5 features improved graphics routines for better performance on the recent Apple Mac OSX 10.11 operating system. It also fixes some small glitches, including the issue when remote controlling the application via MCU and selecting EQ on a DCA. The GUI scaling control on Setup/global now also supports scaling down to 800 pixels width, specifically for tiny displays such as the new RPi2-display.

    New Features:

    • Extended GUI scaling range from 800-1800 pixels window width
    • New switch for scaling the X32 EDIT window to standard size Enhancements
    • Improved graphics routines for better performance on Mac OSX 10.11
    • Several bug fixes, including:
    > MCU remote control issue with DCA-EQ
    > EQ band reset switch will no longer toggle gain off/on when LoCut or HiCut filter modes are selected

Hi. Can I ask you for a version of Edit 2.5 for PC please ... I recently bought the M32C - and found that on the new version 4.1 there is NO way to set / manage Exact Rhythm parameters and other exact settings / values on FX..A in the old version 2.5 - all this is visible and is under every FX ... How did we stay that such IMPORTANT elements were simply removed ... And it’s impossible to regulate exactly ... Please help us please ... Give us version 2.5 please .. .Or tell me how you control the exact parameters of all FX? because TAP is really rude for the rhythm in studio work. Thank you for your help.

I stumbled on to this post when trying to understand more about what you are trying to do because of the Private Message (PM) that you sent me asking about the XTC.

I suggest that you post your questions on this area (see attached link) of the forum. It seems to get more traffic than the places you have posted some of your questions. As you might be able to tell from the lack of responses.

      https://community.musictribe.com/t5/Mixing-Consoles/bd-p/mipc1004?pageNum=2&tab=recent

I would also suggest that you copy and paste the question you asked me in the PM to a new thread in that part of the forum. I will try to answer you there when you do that. I am not sure if the XTC and the M32C was the right choice for what you are trying to do. The XTC has a lot of MIDI capability, I have never used it in the way you are trying to use it. All of the X32/M32 products have very limited Midi capability. But we can talk about that when you post the question in public. This is because other people can join in and try and help you.

Regarding the question in this post. If I understand what you are asking for, all of the Parameters of the Effects units can be controlled in M32 edit V4.1. But in V4.1 I can’t find a way to type in a parameter. I am using a Windows PC if you are using a Mac I can’t be of much help as to how the controls on that work. On a PC if you are using a mouse with a scroll wheel the parameters seem to be rough settings. If you hold down the left button when on a parameter and move the cursor you seem to be able to get a little bit finer resolution. M32 edit version 2.5 is basically the same but you do get the ability to also type in a parameter. Have you checked out any of the tablet apps for this, they may have that ability. The problem with using V2.5 is there are some things that the newer firmware can do that you can’t do on V2.5 and at the moment other than routing I can’t think of what it can’t do.

If you haven’t gotten the M32edit V2.5 or whatever version in the V2 range for the PC that you want, just send me your email address in a PM and just let me know which one you want  and I will send it to you if I have it. V2.5 seems to be the most up to date of the old format.

Where are you from? I am trying to figure the time difference. I am in the USA on the east coast, I am very close to New York City. And I am trying to figure out what is your native language.

    Dear all,

We're pleased to announce the release of our latest M32 firmware, V 2.16.

    M32 Firmware Update Version 2.16

The M32 Firmware Update V 2.16 features performance enhancements to the MIDAS M32 operating system. The Version 2.16 firmware improves the main display UI refresh and fixes some small glitches.

Please be aware that firmware 2.16 should be used with M32-Edit 2.5 on PC / Mac / Linux computers in wired networks, and with M32-Mix 2.2 or higher on Apple iPads (min. iOS 7) for wireless networking.

    Enhancements:

    - GUI drawing routines significantly accelerated

    - Fixed DIN midi remote control problem

    - Channel group assignments synced when fader link option is reselected

    - EQ gain center led only lights up when gain is exactly 0 dB

    - Indication of hard mute state, shown on meter pages with a dark red fader knob

    - EQ band reset bug fixed

    - Ducker attack and release times fixed (were swapped since 2.10)
