hi guys, i am using my x-touch mini with Traktor to control 3rd deck and my FX. with a bit of midi mapping i have added a lot of functionality but its hard to tell when a button is pressed without looking at the screen

is there a way to light up the buttons when they are toggled on?

    thanks all!

ok. i wasnt using the editor right. i now have layer A all working as i want. but when i duplicated it to layer B now i just have 2 identical sets of inputs - layer a or b is irrelevant. if i try to remap is saying for example layer A knob 1 is the same as layer B knob 1.

i thought that with layer a pressed or b it would send a diff signal?!

      Hi Liam ( @Liamtip ),

Welcome to the community.  Since you duplicated Layer A to B, why would you think they would be anything other than identical?  The layer data is the MIDI message assignments as well as the button/encoder behavior.  What you need to do is load the default Layer B settings, modify the button behaviors like you did for Layer A, then load those settings into Layer B.

      Hope this helps,

thanks Ken, yes i think i misunderstood the app and messed it up initially.
i also have an issue where its now not always remembering the settings flicking between layer A and B on the encoders.

      Hi @Liamtip ,

Can you upload your .bin files so I can have a look at them?  You'll likely have to .zip them up since I'm not sure the file upload option allows the .bin file extension.  Use "Choose File" in the lower-left to upload the files.

      thanks ken.

i want some buttons to be toggled (fx on off) and some to be just single hits (for pads)
now i seem to hit a toggled button and it turns the light  on/off but the doesnt FX btn doesnt work until i hit it a 2nd time putting it all out of sync until i press again. which is odd. i also use the encoders being pressed down for same midi signal and they work fine in 1 shot. maybe its the toggle? seems there is a lack of sync somewhere.

also when i load up traktor doesnt know the encoder settings etc like it does if i use my keyboard's midi controls. toggling lights seems to be the issue maybe?

It may seem obvious, but just in case anyone was wondering how to get tracks 1-8 to appear on your Extender, and tracks 9-16 on the main X-Touch in Ableton, here is what to do:

Go to your preferences in Ableton, and then on to the LINK/MIDI tab. Remove all control surfaces in the top section, so that all are set to NONE. Then, simply set up the Extender unit first, and the main X Touch second. Channels 1-8 will then be assigned to the extender.

    Hi

Today I've received my first x-touch mini (I'm using a x-touch and two x-touch extenders quite a while).
After some test I got it working with my software, but there are some points where I would need help:

    • The unit seems not to send any 'Button released' midi messages ( while the x-touch does).
    • Is there a possibility to disable the button -> button LED link inside the x-touch mini? I'm controlling some switches in my software by the x-touch. The app sets the button LEDs according to the current state. When I set the options in the app directly, then the LED buttons reflect the state correctly. When I use the buttons, this does not work correctly, because the LED reacts to the release of the button..

    Regards

    Tomy

      Hi Tomy ( @TomyNeumann ),

Welcome to the community.  What DAW are you using?  Does it have a driver for the mini? Do you have the mini set to MIDI or MC mode?  In MIDI mode, the button behavior is based on the mode set for the individual buttons, whether it be momemtary or toggle.  In both cases, a value of 127 is sent for a press or latch and a 0 is sent for a release or unlatch.  Also, in MIDI mode, the LED state needs to be set/unset with MIDI messages coming from the DAW.  In MC mode, the button behavior and LED state is dictated by the MCU driver in the DAW.

      Hope this helps,

      Ken

      Hi Ken

Thanks for your reply. I'm using my own app, which creates and handles MIDI. The x-touch mini runs in MIDI mode.
Your statement is okay for the x-touch extender (and the x-touch full, I assume), but not for the x-touch mini.
But the x-touch mini behaves different. Even with no midi handling device running, the state of the LEDs changes according to the state of the button.
Furthermore the button does not send a NoteOn MIDI Message when the button is released.

      Well,

The button release does not send Note On with velocity 0 but will send Note Off with velocity 0 (opposite to x-touch extender, where it will send Note On with velocity 0 when released).

    Hello,

I was wondering if the x-touch extender can be used with the x-touch 1? I was given the x-touch 1 as a gift and I want to add some faders. Thanks

Hi, I asked this but don't think I did a good job laying it out. I've attached a drawing this time.

XR-18 connected to X-touch via Cat6, control is there.

I haven't picked my DAW yet, but I have four questions:

1 - Can the Cat 6 connection between the XR-18 (on home router network) connect to the WIN PC for the DAW control part? All three are already connected to home network. I see that I can pick the MC mode on Xtouch config, and choose either Network, USB, or Midi. If I pick network it wants either DHCP or not. Once I get the DAW installed will it connect via the Network selection? Do I need to hard code the IP of the PC, or is it asking for an IP setting for the XTouch?

2 nd question - Must I have that USB connection between the XR-18 and the Windows PC as well in order to get the music to the Win PC? I was hoping it could also use the home ethernet.

3 - What is the best compatible DAW for my purpose - which is just basic recording and basic editing? Example - if this will work with MixPad that would be great since I know how to use it.

4 - If I understand the workflow correctly, I can flip the XTouch between controlling the XR-18 and for controlling the DAW?

    Thanks in advance,

    Patrik

Same setup as mine basically but using a Mac.

      1. Connect Mac/PC via USB to XR18

      2. Check its recognised by your computer as an audio device with 18 ins and outs

      3. You will also see it in your DAW

      4. Turn on router.

      5. Connect your computer via ethernet/WIFI to router network

      6. Make a note of IP address and gateway of router on your computer

      7. Connect Ethernet cable to router and XR18

      8. Toggle switch on front of XR18 to Wifi/Ethernet whichever one you want so wireless or wired connection.

      9. Open X Air app on computer

      10. click setup and choose either WAN/LAN setup depending on wireless or wired.

      11. Connect ethernet cable to XTouch

      12. Connect USB cable to X Touch (NOTE you must have the latest Firmware version to get dual mode feature)

      13. Turn on Xtouch holding down select button on Channel 1

      14. Choose XCT1/MC

      15. Set to Network

      16. Enter IP address that matches the one in settings in X Air app

      17. Turn 3rd Knob to turn DHCP ON

      18. Click Scan

DONE. So in Theory what should happen when it works is When you toggle the SMPTE/BEATS buttn on your X Touch it goes back and forth between controlling your Mixer/X Air app and then your DAW.

      Hope that helps.

      Which model of X-Touch.

If it's the full-sized X-Touch, then all assignments are done in the DAW. The full-sized X-Touch is just a clone of the mackie control devices (with extra modes for X/M mixer control).

Search for using Mackie Control with Ableton and Cubase. Their user forums are a good place to start.

HI, I know I can set FX1-4 levels on the X-touch, but I can't seem to find how to adjust the FX output (this would be the bottom far-right fader on the Xedit app, where you select either MAIN LR, Bus1-5, or FX1-4). Where on the X-Touch do you set the FX OUTPUT (not the input)? Any help?  I uploaded a picture of where I would do this on the X-edit app.

    Thanks - Patrik

The fader in your screenshot is the FX1 Send Master. This can be adjusted on the X-Touch by selecting the fifth fader bank (FX1-4/DCA1-4) and using faders 1..4 for FX Send Masters 1..4.

Rex, thanks VERY much, that did it. Hey question - is there actually a (real) users manual somewhere? I could only find a very short / shallow guide. Searched around.

What am I missing on this stuff? There was no clue that faders 1-4 on the 5th fader bank controlled the FX master output!!!

      Thanks again,

      Patric

The functions are listed in the Firmware Version 1.15 Release Notes from X-Touch Downloads.

I am very disappointed in this x-touch product.
I can not use this with digital perform 9........
After I plugged the USB in, the x-touch is just a $600
paperweight I wish I knew this ahead of time.
I'm going back to my BFC & BCR 2000, or a different brand.

    can anyone help me

      Hi @Jaxsn ,

Welcome to the community.  What research have you done? Have you visited any site to find out what others have been able to do with DP9 and the X-Touch?

You might want to Google "x-touch digital performer 9" or mackie mcu pro digital performer 9".

The X-Touch is a Mackie MCU Pro clone with improvements.

      Hope this helps,

      Ken

As Ken mentioned, The X-Touch is a clone of the Mackie Control. Since these units are dumb (not programmable), all functionality is supplied by the DAW (DP). The best place to ask these questions is at motu nation.

Are you using a mac or PC?
