    Hello everybody,

I’m sorry to open a new thread on this already-discussed-one-thousand-times issue. I have read most of the previous threads about that, but I still haven’t found an answer to my problems.

So, let’s make it short. I have an X32 for FOH and it is connected to an X32 Rack and S16 cascaded. (X32 aesA <-> aesA X32 Rack aes B <-> aesA S16). All the instruments and microphones are connected to the X32 Rack and S16. Output 7-8 of the X32 Rack is MAIN L-R and outputs 1-8 of the S16 are for IEMs. The X32 FOH is only used for mixing, so there is just a Cat.5e cable connected.

So far, I have been able to achieve a few things with the routing, which probably means that it is not too wrong:

    • I can control all the channels on the X32, with HA remote activated
    • I can send sound to the IEMs through MixBuses
    • I can send sound to the MAIN L-R

However, there are a few things I don’t understand:

    • I have a P16m connected to the Ultranet of the X32 Rack. Is it possible to send selected channels from the X32 FOH to the Ultranet of the X32 Rack (or S16) rather than the Ultranet at the back of the X32 FOH?

I also have other questions, but one thing after the other…

In order to assign channels from FOH to the X32 Rack Ultranet, you have to import them to the Rack, like you would do the signals from the S16.

It would be much easier to redirect the Ultranet from FOH to the S16 Ultranet. This is accomplished by going to the Rack Routing, AES50-b screen (or AES50 bottom (B) section in X32-Edit) and assign the AES50 A33-40 and A40-48 to the 5th and 6th banks.

I would add that the Ultranet port on the rear of an S16 carries the assignments of the mixer it is directly connected to on whichever port, A or B, it’s connected by. It then uses that mixer’s aes50a (or aes50b) out 33-48 routing menu. P16 1-8 and 9-16 output routing on that mixer is the default setting but other options exist and can be substituted, you could use outputs 1-16, aux out assignments or even aes50 inputs for instance. If your S16 is connected to the FOH X32 then that routing is done there on aes50 out 33-48 of the FOH X32. If connected to your Rack then it’s the Rack’s aes50 33-48 routing that dictates what emanates from the Ultranet port of the S16. The 2 menu’s can vary widely.

Paul, not sure how long age this thread ended, but I had a question regarding this issue. I have the same exact setup -> X32 FOH -> X32 rack (AES50A) -> S16 (AES50B from rack to AES50A S16)

i currently have all my P16 linked to the S16 (whatever I set on FOH mixer, shows up in my S16, so I’m assuming my configuration is what you described above). The ultranet on the rack, however, gives me something completely different, thus I assume I can have different things routed to it. How do I go about choosing what channels I want on the rack’s ultranet? I’m assuming this won’t affect the S16 ultranet assignments, which are correct right now.

So, in short, can I have different routing assignments for each ultranet (rack and S16)?

Yes you can David. We call them Ultranet zones and you can potentially have up to 3 zones.

The Ultranet port on the back of the Rack (or any X32 console) is hardwired to what is assigned on the Routing, Ultranet screen. Those assignments can be also sent down the AES50 (5th and 6th banks) to a stagebox that also has Ultranet ports. In this scenario, the Ultranet port on the back of the Rack will be identical to the Ultranet port on the stagebox (eg. S16). But the AES50 (5th and 6th banks) can have different assignments, such as Out 1-8, 9-16 which relate to what is individually assigned on the Routing, Out 1-16 screen. Thus each AES50 port could potentially send different signals to the Ultranet ports of the stageboxes attached to them.

Hope this explanation helps. If so, thank Robert @Roblof, since he was the first to discover it.

Paul @Paul_Vannatto , I think I understand it, but not completely sure. So in my scenario, if I wanted the rack, which is connected to the FOH, and the S16, which is connected to the rack, to have different things on the ultranet port, is this what I would have to do?

      FOH p16 out (choose channels I want on S16 ultranet), AES50A out 5th and 6th banks (P16: 1-16).

      Rack AES50B out 5th and 6th banks -> assign AES50A 33-48

Rack p16 out (choose channels I want on Rack ultranet)

Is it possible to assign individual effects to each line/channel?

Like, reverb on channel 1 and distortion on channel 2 etc.

Can't seem to find the answer to this very simple question anywherre in any reviews :/

Could someone do a FX youtube review and howTo please

      Hi Martin ( @vdx ),

Welcome to the community.  The manual is pretty "thin" in this area but based on the fact that there's only a single FX send knob per channel strip, I'm guessing that there's only a single FX bus and therefore all channels would go to the same FX engine.  What is confusing is that they are calling the FX a "24-bit dual engine DSP" but then under it they say "24-bit A/D and D/A Converter" so maybe those are the dual engines.

You could always use the Aux 1 Send/Returns to attach an external FX processor to the mixer.

      Hope this helps,

      Ken

      Hi @KenMitchell

      Thanks for your reply.

Like you, I also think crucial information about his is no where to be found. Your answer is also my own conclusion.

Confirmation on the issue would be nice though, since the reason I am looking at this mixer in the first place would be the effects

I need something small for a proper one man live act, with a minimum of extra effect modules. I need like 4-6 different effects at the same time and was hoping to get this from the mixer.

      Hi Martin ( @vdx ),

I've helped several friends who are solo performers and they've found the XR12 to work very well for them.  You may also want to browse through the TC-Helicon offerings, particularly the VoiceLive 3 and Play Acoustic.  Building a pedalboard might be a good route for you.

      Hope this helps,

Hi, I'm looking at these 2 consoles as options to add to my RCF speaker system. I'm aware the fx processing of the X32 does not compensate for latency. I'm looking for the story behind the fx in each.

    Are they identical processors?

Does latency mean much in smaller rooms? I don't have a large rig. 2 RCF 708 subs and 2 RCF 745A cabs for front. Thanks very much, Shep

      Hi John @JohnShepherd ,

The FX engine is identical in the X32, M32, X-Air and M-Air family of consoles.

The way that the consoles that compensate for latency work is they add delay to everything to keep everything in line. So you have more overall latency in your system. The only problem with not having this is if you send the same signal thru 2 different paths (with one of them going thru an FX)  and then combine them, one of them will be out of time with the other one. That is not good.

So it is like the old joke – a guy comes into the doctor wildly waving his arm above his head and says – Doctor it hurts when I do this and the doctor replies – then don’t do that.

So don’t route the same signal thru 2 different paths and then combine then. At least not without testing to see if they are still time aligned.

And here is a little hint if you have never tried it, add a little bit of delay to your feed to your main speakers so they are time aligned with the acoustic signal coming off of the stage. And then try turning that delay on and off and see if it helps. I always time align my sound systems to the stage and it makes it much smoother sounding in the house. I like to say that with it delayed the speakers have a tendency to disappear and with the delay off you notice the sound coming out of the speakers instead of it sounding like it is coming from the stage.

Just a note that the RTA is always stuck on whatever channel is currently displayed on the console, in the Mixing Station app [ currently 1.03(12) ]

I submitted it David, he said it was a firmware limitation, and there was nothing he can do about it right now.

    - This happens on both Android and IOS (Mixing Station) pro apps.

    - I also checked out the RTA Autogain feature, and right now that only works on the console, and not Mixing Station.  The app has it's own seperate "RTA Offset" knob for the RTA.

btw; Mixing Station Pro works really great on the iPad! The custom layers & layouts load up across different platforms really well!  Hope you add copy/paste on the app sometime soon!  I find that with custom layers and layouts, your app is much easier to use than the console itself.  I attached a "16 channel" layer and layout file* for fun.  You can unzip the .msz file, copy it to your google drive, then load the file from google drive directly from the app.  I setup the custom layers in it to always keep the DCAs availible as much as possible for speed.

    - ( * the mute buttons still need to be assigned in the layout.

    Nice Job David!

    Thanks!

Totally agree, tried to set it up so that we could adjust the room. RTA can't be set to the measure mic with Mixing Station while on the EQ of the MAIN on the Wing.

      Hopefully they'll change the firmware.

Hello, it sounds like your cable may be faulty and/or the rj45 is not seating properly. I would replace it with another known good piece, even a short section to test it. Beyond that, posting your scene may help if by chance there are any routing issues.

    Hallo you all,

i've got a new X-Touch (the big one) and have got some problems with te Solo buttons on the X-Touch Controler (with X32, X32 Rack and X32 Core) connectet to a Laptop.

i have selected in the monitor section "Solo Exclusive". Then pushing a Solo Button on the X-Touch shows the Solo button pressed in the X32-edit software. Pushing one or two other Solo buttons on the controler adds the channel Solo buttons in the software to the other one selectet before. I expect, that one Solo button would replace the others. Is there a bug in the X-Touch software or is the X-Touch damaged?

    Many thanks from Germany

Hello, In the monitor section of the X32, check off the "Exclusive" (last) checkbox. That allows just that particular ch to be solo'd.

I prefer using matrixes. However, unless I link them together I can't send Main left to Matrix Left. If there a way to mute just the left or just the right channel without un linking them?

You cannot normally mute one side of stereo linked channels or buses. Why do you want to do this? There may be another way to achieve what you want.

    Hey Team,

So we updated to the v4 firmware last week which we're loving, but noticed a few issues.

Firstly, it reset my libraries and snippets. I did a backup of everything before I did the update, so I was able to restore them, HOWEVER, when I imported all my libraries, I only had 46 loaded, with the other 53 as blanks. I had spaces between some items so I could "block" content together to break it up a bit. When the 46 items imported, they renumbered themselves to have no gaps in between, but they also wiped the other 53 items, and I can now no longer save items to those 53 slots in the library. If I hit the utility button it shows the other 53 as greyed out and I can't select them at all. How can I get access to these 53 please? Also, it would be super helpful when saving a library item to "insert above" or "insert below" another item so I can re-order my list. For example, I have 6 singers mics all saved alphabetically. Say I want to add another singer whose name starts with "A", I want to be able to go "insert/save above" my singer whose name starts with "B" so it's quick and easy to find it next time. Especially since my spaces have gone.

The other issues we had was the static IP address reset itself to auto (quick easy fix), some of the icons didn't update relative to each other (e.g. we had the "crowd" icon which on channels swapped to the new singing icon but on the bus changed to another icon completely which I can't remember. Easy fix, but a bit odd).

Just a quick feature request as well. When recalling a library item, it would be good to be able to load the scribble strip colour seperate to all the other elements. We have colours on our mics and when we call the item it resets to the colour it was when we saved it. I would like to just be able to load the name and the icon if possible.

      Hi hbc

      Thanks for reaching out

Firmware upgrades do replace the internal memory, so it is unavoidable to have some data loss.
This will be somehow prevented from this FirmWare 4.00, by asking a user to do a console backup before updating the mixer.

Concerning libraries and importing presets, the FW 4.00 had problems when importing presets made prior to FW 2.12, this will be corrected in the next release. A temporary workaround would be to use X-Edit to transfer those presets to your mixer. You could also check the preset files using a basic text editor, they should start with "#4.0#". If it starts with a single "#", thats the cause of the problem... You can fix those files by adding the proper starting version number, but using X-Edit will be way faster.

Regarding the fact that you can no longer save in those slots, it's because you are scrolling the list using the LOAD encoder, this selects only the presets that can be loaded. Try scrolling using the SAVE encoder.
In this FW 4.00, there are many places where several encoders double the function of other ones. It was a bit of a shame to have useless encoders, and it can somehow save you if you have a faulty encoder.

For those "Insert preset" feature request, the tricky part would be to fit it in the user interface in an understandable way. For this task, I recommend using X-Edit again. This lets you manage the libraries with more flexibility, as its easier to use your computer screen than the builtin mixer screen.

The reseting IP adress is normal, as the mixer defaults to DHCP set to ON when doing a factory reset. So this is not a bug
Icons changed to fit the new design better, they are taken from the channel icons used on the new WING mixer.

It is possible to recall only the Name/Icon/Color part of a preset by using the recall scope on the left.
Select the header of the list to (de)select all elements, and check "Name/Icon". Unfortunately, there's no way yet of locking the colors, but we take note of your request

      Hope all this helped,
      Musically, Adam

With an M32C connected to a DL16 and S16 over AES50 (not daisy chained), can the mix busses be routed to the DL16/S16 XLR outputs?

I have routed the 16 Outs to the 8 XLR outputs on the DL16 and S16. I can successfully send signals from the Main L/R/MC to the Outs and demonstrate it make it to each XLR output. I can also connect the Directs to the Out and demonstrate it makes it through. However when I direct a mix bus to the Outs like shown in the attached file, nothing makes it through to the DL16/S16. The meters also verify that nothing is being sent. If the Outs are also mapped to the Ultranet outputs, the meters show it make it to the Ultranet output but not the XLRs.  What am I missing?

What you've shown of the routing looks fine, but there could be more to it.  Upload your whole scene file.  Have you checked that the bus masters are up, and that they're not muted, both with their own master mutes and via mute groups\DCAs?

@dmorrier The answer is yes. I would check your aes50 outputs menu and make sure "out 1-8" and "out 9-16" are set correctly for the aes50a 1-8 and/or aes50b 1-8 outputs and that both stageboxes are set to the right mode (probably both at mode 1). Your pic shows you are using post fader tap points so as Craig alluded to, make sure the faders are up and unmuted. Bottom line though is mix busses can surely be routed to the DL/S16 outputs. That assignment is done via the aes50a or b output routing menu. Make sure the DL/S16 is connected via its A port. Also what tap point are you using for direct out of the ultranet. Try using the same post fader MIXBUS assignments for the ultranet and check your meters to see if the signal no longer appears. That would indicate that it is a fader issue.

Slightly disappointed that it doesn't appear to be able to mix any faders?....just set up stuff?...and with my iPad anyway, you can't use spaces, everything is run on for naming and tags etc. Of course we are talking a hot 10 minutes of investigation and use....at least I could connect! I could be missing whole pieces of the puzzle so early on.

EDIT: Tags naming allows spaces but not the source name. I guess I'm being impatient looks Iike this is only "phase 1" of several phases.
