What's the best way to connect this mixer and interface? Seen the fact that the interface only records mono, what would be the best way to set this up? I want to mainly use it for recording vocals, the line out from my amp and straight up signal from my guitar.

Hello Piter, welcome to the community.

The UMC22 can record both inputs as a stereo track. If you are only getting a mono recording, see these notes for a possible fix.

While you could connect the Main LR outputs from the mixer to Line 1 and Inst 2 inputs, the two inputs have different characteristics so would not sound the same. You really need an interface like the UMC202HD for good stereo recording. The UMC204HD is even better as you can listen to a mix of playback and input channels.

Well seen the fact that the mic/line in input is a low impendance input for the preamp and the inst 2 input is a high impendance input for unamplified instruments, you can't really record stereo can you? Nonetheless i was wondering what would be the best way to set this up with the gear that i have. Perhaps using a stereo to mono cable but still connecting the l/r outputs from the interface so i can listen/playback in stereo?

I am not sure what you mean by a stereo to mono cable. You could just connect one of the mixer outputs to the UMC22 Line input, pan the mixer channels that you want to record to that side and record mono tracks. You could listen to stereo playback through the 2-Track inputs by pressing the 2-TR To CTRL Room button.

Love my XR-18 and have used it as a recording interface and a live mixer.  More recently, I'm trying to use it to stream live multi-channel audio to Facebook Live and I'm having a lot of difficulty.  I see the XR-18 as an option for the audio feed in Facebook, however the audio is not passing through -- I get silence. Has anyone used their XR-18 to webcast a stream on Facebook Live?  First I'd like to confirm that it CAN be done, then if so, I can work on getting it working!

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Camille, welcome to the community.

What type of device are you using to stream from the XR18? (Windows PC, Mac, Tablet, iPad, etc)

Sorry for the lack of detail! Yes, I'm connected to the XR18 using a MacBook Pro. I'm streaming Facebook via Chrome, on that same Mac. What I ended up doing was mixing through the XR18, but also plugging-up a Focusright Scarlet and running cables from the XR18 main outs into the Scarlet. Then I streamed the audio from the Scarlet. It worked fine, but clearly feels like an extra piece of gear that shouldn't be required.

FYI, when I was initially trying to stream from the XR18 I had not yet connected the second interface, so there wasn't any confusion between the two. I only added that as a "plan B" when I couldn't get the audio from the XR-18 to stream.

Have you set the XR18 to route the main mix to USB Sends 1/2? Using XAir Edit, that would look like this:

      In/Out, USB SendsIn/Out, USB Sends

The input could also be blocked by the Mac Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone settings.

What is the easiest way to record off of my Behringer Europort PPA500BY? I am using a background cd played through my lap top running through the pa system as well as one voval on a mic.

Hello Jeff, welcome to the community.

The only way to get a cable recording feed from the PPA500BT would be to run the speaker cables through a passive DI box like this. This would give you a pair of mic-level signals so you would need a two-channel preamp/USB interface to connect to a PC for recording. The UMC202HD would be a good choice for this.

It would probably be easier to set up a USB microphone in front of the speakers and record through that...

So doing it the first way I would plug everything into a computer to record. The second way would be to use a mic. Both ways I would record into a computer, like to a thumb drive? Which way would I get the best quality recording?

Thanks a lot for your time.

      @Jeffkelley

Yes both methods would record to a PC. You could then copy the recording to a USB stick if required. If you don't want to use a computer, there are standalone portable recorders like one of the Zoom models.

Which would be the best quality? Usually a cabled recording would be better as it minimizes interference from ambient sounds. Sometimes, though, the natural room reverberation can make a mic'd recording sound good.

I have recently added a UMC404HD to my very basic set-up.  This is primarily based around FL Studio 20 and ASIO4ALL v2 on a well-provisioned Windows 10 desktop.  The UMC is used as a 2x stereo audio input to supplement a Steinberg UR22.

The UMC404HD works well and everything goes as expected.

There is one caveat, after a while there is distortion of any playback sound even if the UMC is nowhere in the chain - not input or output. All that is required is the UMC WDM device to be loaded and active in ASIO4ALL.  Any output will start to distort within about 2 minutes - it does sound like buffer overruns or memory corruption of some kind.

If the UMC device is not active in ASIO4ALL the problem does not occur.  I need to stress that this is not a function or feature of the hardware in use but the mere presence of an active WDM driver.  Even if the playback is distorting the sampling from the UMC is totally fine.

I have tried experimenting with various permuations of ASIO4ALL options as well as sample rates but the problem persists. It is very reproducable for any given set of parameters and using any FL Studio demo track.

I am prepared to accept that it is some pecularity of my set-up but it was working before the UMC was added and it works when the UMC WDM driver is deactivated in ASIO4ALL.  I am mentioning it here in case anyone else has experienced this and has a viable workaround. Switching the device on and off in ASIO4ALL is far from ideal and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Why don't you use the UMC Driver 4.59.0 ASIO driver (or Windows Driver 4.38 ASIO). ASIO4ALL isn't a real driver. It's just a kludge to allow ASIO only software to use Windows native drivers.

I can reproduce the problem in Tracktion Waveform too.

It does seem that the UMC WDM driver or its interplay with other WDM drivers via ASIO4All is causing grief of some kind.  I am happy to try out a debug version if one is available. In the meantime, I'll adjust the workflow to avoid enabling UMC in an ASIO4All configuration and wait to see if anyone else reports the same problem.

Hello Leen, welcome to the community.

The Windows driver for the UMC202HD provides a low-latency ASIO interface. Unfortunately, Audacity does not support ASIO so it uses Windows WASAPI interface which has poor latency. The best solution is to switch to a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that supports ASIOReaper is a popular DAW that is used by many members of this community and it supports ASIO. It can be downloaded and tested, free, for up to 60 days.

Mac OS doesn't use or need ASIO drivers. The UMC 202HD is class compliant so it needs no drivers.

Which OS version are you using?

Can you record and play using Quicktime Player?

For Mojave and  Catalina to allow sound in: System Preferences: Security: Privacy and Microphone. Check the software you want to allow.

Dave, yes, I can record in Quicktime but it is very muted as with Audacity. I've ordered an exterior 48v power supply and a cable to connect to the audio in port on the iMac. I'll check that to see if it improves the quality and tone of the recording. Probably be three weeks before I receive everything though. Thanks for your reply.

If Audacity on Mac works the same as on Windows, there is an input level control that may need raising:

      Audacity Input LevelAudacity Input Level

To see this control, open View -> Toolbars and enable Mixer Toolbar.

I've had a UM2 interface for a couple of years and have been very happy with how it has worked with my Linux computer. Recently I tried it on a friend's iMac but have had some weird problems. The Mac is only a few months old and is running Catalina and all the latest software updates. The Mac recognises the interface OK and audio playback is fine. If, for example, I play an audio file on the Mac, it sounds great through headphones plugged into the UM2.

However, using a mic and/or guitar plugged into the UM2, and monitoring the sound in Garage Band, the sound is terrible. It breaks up, crackles, has an audible time lag and a warbling sound like ring modulation. We tried plugging the UM2 directly into the Mac's USB and also into a USB hub plugged into a Thunderbolt connector. Both were the same.

any suggestions, please, as to what might be causing this, and how we can fix it?

    Many thanks

    Steve

It sounds like you got the Microphone privacy issue sorted. The crackling sounds could be sample rate mismatch. Check the app Audio/MIDI setup to change/check them.

Audio/MIDI setup is the way to set inputs and outputs, sampling rates for applications that have no audio controls (like GB, Zoom, OBS, etc). It's sounds like ou are have buffer problems, but I don't think you can change that in GB. Logic Pro X (which looks like GB) is much more flexible.

Can you get a clean recording using Quicktime player?

      @DaveMorrison Hi Dave,

Thanks for this. Sorry for the slow reply but I haven't been well the last couple of days (getting better now). I am not very familiar with Macs so I'd missed the Audio/Midi setup app...thanks for pointing me at that. So I was able to change the UM2 to 44.1kHz.

We've just tried recording with Quicktime player, as you suggested. I tried counting to ten into the mic plugged into the UM2. Playing back the recording, 1 to 5 recorded OK; 6 sounded a bit broken up; 7 disappeared completely and 8, 9, 10 were very late and broken up. We repeated this a few times with similar results. The audio is OK for a few seconds then increasingly goes adrift. We tried the same with Garage Band and got similar results.

Any ideas what we could try next?

      Thanks again.

I'm about out of ideas. It should be working now.

Have you tried 48kHz? In Garage Band under Preferences: Advanced you can turn off 24-bit recording.

It don't think that will help...

It's probably time to use the Support menu at the top of this page and see what the manufacture can tell you.

Yes that is the correct drivers (but don't see it in your screenshot - 2nd from bottom is "Mice and other Pointing Devices"). If it is installed, then you should be able to access the ASIO drivers in Studio One or Cubase. The other drivers at the top of your screenshot are the Windows drivers, which can only access one stereo pair at a time (another reason why I recently switched from Win7 to linux Mint).

Been a customer nearly 20 years and own at least 10 Behringer products, that's over. First of all, I never needed support and loved this company because of that. My UMC 1820 died in the middle of recording vocal tracks and I've done everything any computer savvy user would do to resolve. The issue follows the device on multiple computers w\different OS. Trying to get any contact or resolution to this issue is not only difficult and frustrating, it's RUDE. I used the web form to submitt a request when the unit died. I received an email response that Behringer "We would love to help you and will respond to you within one business day.We are honored to have you as our customer -- thank you for your trust" and would contact me in 1 (one) business day. It's been a week (7 days-5 business days) and not a word. I've sent multiple requests through the "support Form on the web". This is not feeling like I am very "Honored" and as of today you have totally betrayed and lost my Trust as a customer. Meantime the DAW portion of my recording studio is dead in the water.

I have a regestered unit, under warranty till 2022. What good is a warranrty when the company will not contact you for a legitimate claim or service? In my country that warranty is called a Worthless Instrument (Look it up, it's a felony in my counrty).

Behringer has lost me as a customer forever. I'd don't accept being treated like this as it is an insult. I'll most likely need to spend more for a product that does what a Behringer unit does but at least I'll be able to make a call and speak to some one and get my issue resolved should I have one or get a replacement unit covered under warranty . . . . That's worth the extra money. Buyer BEWARE! There is no such thing as a Behringer warranty and no such thing as Behringer support! Do not give them your TRUST as a paying customer, you WILL NOT be Honored!

      This is strange.

I am from India and have 12 Behringer pedals and a pre-amp. I am a regular forum contributor Level-3 as they call.

For any issue even not with the registered product aka pre-sales, I usually get a response with 48 hours. First reply is usually automatic after registering the complaint. I just closed a ticket yesterday after a detailed email from me was answered back by a service guy.

I can recognize your anger and frustartion also but this type of service is totally unheard of with Behringer. Which country are you from?

You're one up on me.  I submitted a request for pre-sales support on the UMC1820 through their support website (you'd think they'd want the customer), and didn't even receive an automated email response acknowledging the request.  I've been waiting for nearly a day and a half, now, and there has been no response to the request on the support site.  I've tried the phone number they publish in their documentation, +1 702-800-8290, and it just rings with no one picking it up.  Not even an outgoing voicemail message.  There are images all over their site that imply that they provide phone support -- pictures of people wearing headsets, headset icons -- everything but real people with real headsets answering real phone calls.  I've got six frickin' badges on their community site, now, and I haven't even gotten an answer to the one simple queston that will determine whether or not I buy the unit.  Needless to say, I'm thrilled.

Hi Ed, can you see your Care ticket listed when you click on Support at the top of this page (assuming you are logged on)? If not, it didn't get raised. This can happen if there is some missing or invalid information in your profile or the Care form. It is easy to miss the error messages.

If there is no Care ticket, I suggest that you try again but take screenshots of the completed Care form before you submit it. If it fails again, let us know and we can tell you how to send the screenshots to get some help. Do not attach the screenshots to your post as they will contain personal information!

See, the thing is, I remember only a few years back being able to call Behringer for pre-sales support, and easily getting a clear, concise and helpful answer to my question.  As tech consultant for the music department of a fairly large university, this is something I've done regularly with inMusic Brands, one of MusicTribe's most significant competitors, and I've never had any problem.  Having to jump through all of these hoops of creating an account, posting a ticket, waiting days for a response, and posting to a community board to try to force the issue is really disturbing.  Almost as disturbing as the suggestion that I might have to repost the request, take screenshots of the post, and send them to someone in the community so they can tell me how to get help with my request for help.  I'm sure you can recognize my frustration, as my question is something that should be clearly answered in the owner's manual for the device -- if there were an owner's manual for the device, which there isn't!

Well, I have a weird problem.  But, I was trying something weird.  I am running an audio track from a youtube video as a background track for a live vocal, and the output streamed.  Long story short, the background track sounds like it is running through an old school plug in flanger.  Is it possible the umc doesn't like the flavor of the youtube bit rate?  If so, how can it be fixed.  I know  Weird.  Sorry.  Trying to push the envelope and go where no one else goes.  Ha!

Fixed it.  Changed the windows bitrate and hz to 16 and 441000, and the problem has stopped.  Sounds beautiful.  When it was 24, etc, the sound was like it was strained through a flanger or old school phase shifter.  Thanks for thinking on my question.

Hello Robert, welcome to the community.

It may be a mis-matched sample rate. This can be set through Windows Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback. Select Out 1-2 and click Properties. The sample  rate is set on the Advanced tab.

Bought a Behringer product, no software was included. I had to register at Music Tribe which I did. I then had to create a care ticket. I did 3 times. Every time they close my ticket (product registration) without a single reply (or giving me my promised software).

This is a serious lack of customer service and really gets me frustrated. I hope someone can help me out in this matter as there is no proper way to get in touch with anyone of Behringer or Music Tribe (without making an extreme expensive phonecall)

I have asked for your Care case to be checked. I'm sure the Care team are in survival mode like many of us so it could take a while. Keep watch on your email - including the spam folder.
