I'm a bit rusty on my recording gear, but I'm struggling to get good output levels from my Xenyx 802, and I'm wondering if something's wrong with my unit.

One thing that seems a bit weird is that the level indicators don't light up at all. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong there.

The biggest thing I'm struggling with is getting good sound in my Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones. I've tried to work with several different sources, with not a huge amount of success. I've generally got knobs set at unity. I'm awaiting a couple more components, so some things aren't optimal.

When I connect them directly to my Roland Octapad's headphone jack, everything sounds perfect. But when connected to the Phones output of the Xenyx, the output sounds low and lacking bass, even when I crank the Main Mix and Ctrl Room knobs pretty high. I'm struggling to get high levels without clipping. This goes for all sources I've tried monitoring through the headphones. Maybe something's wrong with the headphone amp in the mixer?

For the 2-track output, which I'm using to connect to my sound system, I'm seeing much better results.

And on a more minor note, it feels like I'm getting really low levels from the Octapad. I've got the master knob maxed on it, and I still have to give it some gain. I'm using an unbalanced mono connection while I await my balanced stereo cables, but it still seems weird. I used two different cables and no difference. Connecting it to a bass amp from the same output yields much better results, with moderate levels. So I guess you could say this has me questioning the preamps.

Well, I feel kinda dumb now. The problem was that I had 2-TR TO CTRL ROOM pressed in. I guess this makes it so that CTRL ROOM and PHONES monitor only the 2-TRACK INPUT. The weird part is that I got enough signal bleed to hear anything at all. The level lights are working now, too.

      This post clued me in.

      Things I also learned:

      - the Octapad has a +6db boost feature.

      - the Octapad's outputs are unbalanced, so that wasn't going to be an issue.

Really odd that I'm testing now and having difficulty recreating the exact scenario which causes problems..  I've had regular issues recalling a channel snapshot while on User layer 1 of the left hand bank.  The channels snapshot is full channel settings but the scribble strip does not update with a speaker's name when recalling their preset.

Toggling the bank to another layer and back to User 1 updates the scribble strip.  Now that I'm focused on testing and paying attention to the channel name on the display I can't duplicate the issue. I have already swapped between banks and recalled a snapshot from the 1-12 layer but can't shut it down in the middle of recording at the moment.  It appears to be state related.

I have serious problems with my Wing Graphical User Interface. It is randomly swithcing things, depending on what page I am working on. The middle left area is living its own life, I have heard that the first batch of consoles had issues with the capacitive display and I think I am so unlucky to have collected one of these.
Since the corona issues and UK being almost complete in lock-down, I don't dare to send my console in for service. It can take months before I will receive it back after service and I cannot wait that long time since I have sold my good old X32.
I have send in a parts request for a new display and that request is "in progress" now. I am curious to see if Behringer will send me a new display so I can replace it myself.
I think for this time that is the best solution....

Are other people having the same issues?

      Hi Dick,

I have not had many problems with things changing -- other than channels becoming unassigned from DCAs. Strangely enough, after I reassign them a second or third time, they seem to 'stick.' I know this makes no sense at all, but I've had it happen many times.

I had to wait almost a month to send in my defective WING-LIVE card because the Vegas repair depot was shut down due to Coronavirus and not accepting any returns. Finally, I got my RMA and then UPS lost my package. The depot has ordered me a replacement, but they are on backorder.

Good luck with your problem. Hopefully you can get a replacement screen.

Yes.  Thankfully it's rare that it selects a spot on the screen for me and most of the time it's just a minor annoyance.  It has happened on an input selection screen where it is problematic during a fast setup..

Firmware Version 1.06.  When attempting to save only channel source inputs in a snap, none of the individual snap settings seem to save the input source.  Tyring to create a snap that would easily allow switching between recording and playback input settings.  A full snap does save and restore the source inputs, but it seems there is no individual setting that will do this.  It appears to be a bug in the 1.06 firmware or a feature not yet implemented.  Anyone else have this issue?

Hello, not sure about the ch snap saves, I will also double check BUT. Why not use the ch alt inputs? A one button push changes all ch's at one time. I'm assuming you want USB or SD card inputs for playback.

      Hi Brent @bavera123 ,

Welcome to the forum. Snapshots save all settings of the Wing. What you can select are the recall scope. For the channel sources, I would suggest you select the desired channel(s) and the "Conn" at the bottom. I just tried it and it did work as expected.

I am considering purchasing a WING to replace my X32. I have 22 microphones coming from one location, 16 microphones from another location. I've been successful running microphones via SD16's into A and B (not cascaded... because they're coming from 2 locations not near one another). However, the new configuration will see 22 microphones scattered across a great distance in the same room and rather than run long XLR cables back to one SD32, I would like to cascade 4 SD8s filling SD8 1 & 2 with 8 ins each, SD8 3 & 4 with 3 each. Can I cascade that deep?

Hello, Yes, as long as you dont excede 48x48 on a single port (Wing has 3!)

EDIT: You should be able to link 6 SD8's per port for the 48 inputs. The XLR output options would still be restricted to a choice of the 3 provided switch positions for each SD8. Out 1-8/out 9-17 and out 17-24. So even though there could be 6 sets of XLR outs, only 3 options as to what would be output from any of them. Ultranet for all is aes50a 33-48.

Hello Ryan, welcome to the community.

The button on the console affects the preamp for the currently selected channel. Each channel has independent settings for gain, phantom, etc.

You can also see/change the preamp settings on the Setup -> Preamps tab.

DCA and Subgroup spill functionality would be an absolute game changer and allow for many different workflows.

Perhaps the spill could be triggered by double pressing the select button (similar to double pressing the 'Attention' button on Avid consoles)?

Hi guys, im setting up a livestream with Streamleabs using my X32 with the USB card. I got sound the sound and everything into streamlabs but the problem is the sound level on the stream. I need to have almost every fader turned all the way up. Also tried with increasing gain, but that just makes the sound far worse on the stream. The artist is also going to use monitors and it would be nice if the meters werent constantly glowing red....

Hello, try using the Ultranet or out1-16 routing instead of local for your card out's. Those menus allow you to use direct outs of the mixer ch's at later tap points like post fader. This allows more boost than if you use local which is only gain and is pre everything.

Thanks! That worked great, but only for the Youtube stream. Im also streaming to Facebook witch still is pretty low on volume.

-mjk- I use a stereo subgroup to feed SLOBS (so I can make a mix minus feed), and there is more than enough gain. Everything is post-fader.

When I try to record from XAir 18 into Garageband, I am unable to modify the output using the faders, effects, etc. I have tried changing the signal tap points on the USB Out page via iPad --analog, post-eq, post-fader -- without any change in the USB signal. The only control that seems to work is the channel gain.

Any suggestions on other ways to modify the signal?

Our church uses the XAir-18 for live worship, and now we're trying to use it for streaming, as well.

    Thanks!

Hello, sounds like what you tried should do it. Can you copy your scene and post it here? Probably the quickest way to locate the issue.

The USB out page shows that signals are sent post preamp (analogue tap point,) except for USB1+2, which are set to the analogue output (which is really the input) of bus6.  Although channels feed bus6 post-eq so you can make your livestream mix, you don't have any FX turned up in that bus.

      @ddchurch3

At present as Craig said, all USB ch's are being sent out pre everything so you won't get any XR ch processing to your daw. If you want them to include ch processing, including fader position and pan you need to make all usb ch sends (including 1/2) be Post fader. Also if bus 6 is your stream feed and sending it 2x as USB 1 and 2 is to get a stereo type feed. You might be better off linking bus 5 and 6 then you can actually pan each ch to that bus pair. Make USB out 1 be bus 5 and USB out 2 be bus 6. Daw ch's 1/2 should record your live feed stereo and 3-18 should record the rest of your ch's (17/18 being aux)

      Thank you, Gary and Craig.

So if I understand correctly, in order to send USB signal with effects and fader, I need to:

      1. Change USB send settings to "Post EQ + Mute" for any channels we're sending?

      2. Increase/decrease Fx via the Bus 6 faders, not just at the individual channel level?

Sorry to be asking such basic questions. There is no one in our organization who has any knowledge of sound board operation. What little I have learned has been from YouTube and reading the manual, both of which leave many unanswered questions.

      Thank you for your help.

I had thought that I read somewhere that you could control the X32 across an internet connection (not just the local network, LAN). Has anyone been able to do this successfully? If so, how did you point the port to it and what software were you running to control it?

I'm needing to set up some scenes and snippets remotely for an operator... talking them through it will take too much time, and most likely they'll mess things up from miscommunications.

Just like any other service behind a internet router you can also port forward the X32 Edit port to the internal IP-Address of a X32 console. At the remote side you have to enter the remote external IP-Address where the X32 console is behind to access and control.

Another, saver option, is to create a VPN connection to the remote network and start to control the X32 console by it's local IP-Address over that VPN tunnel. A VPN tunnel give only access to the remote network with a correct username and password (and some VPN options like OpenVPN also make use of SSL keys).

In X32Edit, how do you enter the port number?

You don't Scott. The X32-Edit is fixed at the 10023 port for the X32/M32. The X-Air-Edit is also fixed at the 10024 port for the X-Air/M-Air consoles. Is there a reason why you want to change ports?

:edit: I think you are referring to Vasco's post. I think you need to add the 10023 port to the VPN tunnel.
